Ella Escapade Hostel

Beautiful spot, right on the train tracks and the Ella rock trail. Staff are very friendly and the free meals are really lovely. Good social atmosphere.

If you don't have a vehicle it may be far to go back and forth to town if that's important to you.

The owner is very kind. Free breakfast and social dinner are a great way to meet new travellers. Conditions are pretty basic but the vibes and kindness of the owner compensates for that .

Location outside of the city center . if you don’t want to always walk, count around 5€ to go to town and other 5€ to go back on a tuk tuk

The house and garden are beautiful! The location is so serene; I’m really glad we stayed a bit out of town. It’s walking distance from the Ella Rock trailhead and an easy walk along the tracks to a waterfall and into Ella town. Dayan made us tea all through the day, which was wonderful. The free breakfast and dinner was awesome too. We had gorgeous sunny mornings out hiking and then returned to shelter from the afternoon rain, drink tea and play cards. It was really social and had such a cosy vibe. I could have stayed for weeks.

It would be nice if the bunks had curtains and there were more power points throughout the room. Also the showers were a bit dirty and didn’t get super hot.

This is one of my fave stays in Sri Lanka. The fact that the location is a lil awquad for town- yet it’s still super social made it so fun to walk down the tracks and great for Ella Rock! I also liked being away from the touristic main Street and being closer to nature! The staff were so lovely and helpful, and the free breakfast and dinner was amazing :)

Great hostel and lovely staff!! The best thing is the fact that you get free breakfast and dinner. You can have add-ons for extra but the main meal is free which saves up a lot in comparison to restaurant prices. Its right next to Ella Rock entrance. And a 40-minute walk along the train tracks to most things (if you check maps it shows you a bigger distance because it doesn’t account the possibility of walking the tracks).
