MOUNTAinn Nagiso

The whole place was for us. A very nice and traditional place.

Fantastic location directly across from Nagiso station on a quiet street one side and a beautiful view of the river and hills on the other side. Right on the Nakasendo trail and 10mins by car from Tsumago. The owners came and met us to let us in and gave a lovely intro to the property, which we had all to ourselves. It looks like it was once a small hostel, which now gives people the ability to book the entire accommodation. We stayed just one night but could have spent days there, beautiful tatami-matted rooms with a breakfast balcony looking out over the local scenery. Fantastic value for money and would be perfect for families and groups of friends.

One of the best places we stayed in Japan. We walked the Nakasendo trail from Ochiai to Nagoya, so this was the perfect spot to rest. The view from the terras is amazing, there were great restaurants nearby and we went shopping in the supermarket to cook for ourselves. The host gave us great advice on how to get to a nearby onsen and what to do in the neighbourhood.

It is an eccentric and enchanting place, not like anywhere else I have stayed. A hot stream runs next to the Inn and fills the onsen. Deer roam the grounds. There is a drumkit in reception. Our room was large, comfortable and warm. It is more like staying in an artist's studio and home than an hotel. I enjoyed every part of it and was touched by our handmade leaving gift.

It must be very hard to keep the onsens in good condition given the acidic nature of the water supply but it could have done with some attention. Didn't stop me using it and loved the fact that it was for our use only as each apartment has their own

Everything was beyond great. The property is equipped with everything needed and more. The hospitality is fantastic. The view is fantastic. It's a gem, really.

Full facilities like an air bnb and location

The perfect location for hiking the trail from Magome up to Tsumago (and beyond) Had the whole building to ourselves, and was a great base to return to. Loved being able to look out across the river.
