One day I was totally alone in the living room, talking to my grandma on the phone, and a guy who works there came to me and said that I was not allowed to talk in the living room, because that was a quiet place and that was a hostel's rule. So I had to go inside my room (where there were other people) to talk on the phone. I was not screaming at all, was just talking normally, in the evening (like 7pm) and I was alone there, so I was not disturbing or disrespecting anyone at all. I think this is one of the weirdest things that ever happened to me in a hostel. I think this is so rude and at the same time it's funny because the tv was on all the afternoon in the same living room where I was (with nobody watching it). After this, I remembered that the day I arrived (at 8pm) the hostel workers were whispering to each other, and so I realized that it's because they are not allowed to speak normally. I also like silence and I'm not noisy at all, but this is way too weird for me. I would just feel more comfortable in a more normal environment.
