The location is very convenient. The hostel is across from Fujiya hotel which is very pretty to look at and even worth a visit for its bakery café or museum. It's next to a busstop and between 2 konbinis. The busses go everywhere - from the Gora cable cars to the Open Air, Glass and Pola museums, down to lake Ashi or back to Hakone-Yumoto station. The amenities include wifi, a small but fully equipped kitchen, and a very cozy common room to relax and spend time in. There's a shared bathroom and toilet, free earplugs and disposable slippers, and you can buy a toothbrush and toothpaste on check-in for 50 yen. The best part about my stay was the staff, Kana. Not only was I received very warmly, but she helped me get reservations for dinner and a private onsen visit that very evening despite some pushback from the locations. With the reservations done, and realizing I had some time to kill before dinner, she gave me some drinks and snacks to share while chatting about ourselves. Kana might be one of the best hosts you could wish for, I felt bad that I only stayed for a single night.

The house is old with little to no sound or heating insulation. I was visiting in the off-season so I had the dormitory for myself, but the walls are made of paper. If there were more people, you would hear everyone. The location does offer free earplugs to compensate, but I can't recommend it do light sleepers. While the beds in the dormitory have dividers for darkness and privacy, the room doesn't have any curtains despite big windows facing the road and Fujiya hotel. As a result, there's no convenient, private place to change in the dormitory room. You'd either have to get changed on the bed, or take your change of clothes into the bathroom. It's a minor inconvenience.

First of all, the owner, Hana-san, is really, really great！She will introduce the surrounding area of the hotel in detail to us and offer help such as making phone reservations. The facilities in the hotel are also well maintained. Secondly, the location is excellent, right in front of the bus stops of Hotel Mae and Miyashita Onsen, and very close to the mountain climbing tram station, which is very convenient for sightseeing. There are also delicious restaurants, convenience stores and hot springs nearby. I will consider coming again in future trips!

It was a very last-minute reservation, so I couldn't get the ideal room type. But I don't think it's the hotel's fault.
