Hostal El Rio

It was a quiet place with a lovely pool to use, it helped with cooling down. breakfast in the morning was nice and staff were friendly.

The location is at the edge of town, still walkable but not a pleasant walk in the dark. Laundry was good but they charged London prices, unfortunately we had no option but to do our laundry there but I’d suggest doing it before or after staying there. Paid triple the amount we usually pay. Room was quite hot, and the windows were only to an interior hall so there was poor ventilation. Showers could’ve been cleaned more often and maintained better, it was one of the worst showers I’ve seen. Overall we found it very pricey for what we got.

The staff were super lovely, a super refreshing pool, great breakfast and not too far from town.

The boy working at the reception in the morning was truly friendly and helpful, the pool was clean and refreshing, the breakfast was nice, they offer very quick laundry service and may help to arrange tours and various activities. We ended up prolonging our stay as we really liked León and the accommodation. As a bonus, they have a very friendly dog Canella ❤️

The location is a bit outside the center but it means only about 10 or 15 minute walk, so it did not matter to us.

Best gallo pinto so far, breakfast. Kitchen was ok. Nice neighbourhood. Nice rooms, pool was nice!

The bathroom smelled a little off, but nothing too bad. Otherwise my stay was very good :)

From the start the lovely and warm staff stood out for me. Leni, Gabriel and Mercedes were always available and helpful. I got shown around the property and was given all the necessary information straight away. I also got recommendations and instructions for places in Leon to eat or visit. The space seems small but opens up with a spacious back garden where you can lounge in the hammock, swim in the pool, chill on the sofas or play ping pong. The dorm was small and only had two bunk beds which meant more privacy, but also meant it was quite hot..but the fans provided sorted that problem for me. I had to take my breakfast early because I had to leave and Mercedes was only too glad to prepare it for me with a big smile and we had a nice conversation. The communal kitchen seemed well equipped, though I haven't used it much. And there's many helpful signs to tell you all the info you need to know - bins for recycling, rules for the fridge, etc. It has a good number of showers and toilets, that were always clean, tidy and well stocked. It even has a cheap same-day laundry service. It is a budget hostel, with a simple and modest decor, but one that I found charming. It has many facilities and always striving to improve and create more, like a co-working space in the near future.

When I checked in, they told me there was an issue with the bigger dorm I'd booked so moved me to a room with a bunk bed which I had to myself the entire time. The breakfast was a típico nicaraguense breakfast. Being vegan, I just had the rice, beans and plantain. The staff were really helpful and kind. The hostal was nice and clean and not a party hostal which I really liked.

The hostal was located a bit further out of town in quite a residential area. Walking by myself I got quite a few catcalls from locals. There were two fans in my room; it was still insanely hot but better than nothing! There was one incident that happened in the hostal on the last night I was there when there were some very drunk girls talking in the kitchen (just next to my room) past midnight. There are signs everywhere in the hostal that quiet hours are between 10pm and 7am. I decided not to go and confront them because one of the girls sounded upset, but they then began POUNDING their fists on one of the doors down the corridor and shouting for the roommates to open the door. I have never experienced such disrespectful behaviour in a hostal - they were crying but laughing(?) so I have no idea if it was a joke or what. It was very strange. Basically everyone in the hostal came out of their rooms to see what the commotion was. The whole debacle continued for at least 30 mins. I have no idea what actually caused it all and it was an isolated incident but I wanted to mention it as it did affect my stay and in my opinion there should have been night staff to nip it in the bud and stop this behaviour immediately.
