Erjavčeva mountain hut at Vršič pass

Z ekipo smo preživeli štiri prekrasne dni v Erjavčevi koči in izkušnja je bila vrhunska. Hrana je naravnost fenomenalna — kuhar se resnično potrudi in preseže vse, kar bi človek pričakoval v gorski koči. Navajeni smo jesti v kočah, a tole je bilo daleč nad standardom, skoraj neverjetno za takšno lokacijo. Sobe so čiste, urejene in zelo prijetne. Osebje je izjemno prijazno, toplo in pristno — vidi se, da delajo s srcem. Lastnik pa z veliko predanosti skrbi za kočo, za dobro voljo in za to, da se vsak gost počuti dobrodošlo. En večer smo se nasmejali do solz, vzdušje je bilo domače in iskreno. Narava okoli koče je famozna, razgledi pa takšni, da si jih zapomniš za vedno. Erjavčeva koča je kraj, ki ga z največjim veseljem priporočamo vsem, ki si želijo vrhunske hrane, prijaznega osebja, pristnega vzdušja in nepozabnih dni v gorah.

Da smo morali že domov. :)

Scenery was stunning, sitting outside taking it all in. I stayed I mixed dormitory was spacious with toilet/shower seperate both very clean on floor below. Comfy bed with own space, single bed in corner. Lovely restaurant catering for all needs, breakfast additional. 10ks to walk down on a trail to Juliana Trail. One friendly guy, so lovely when I had a bad start to my travel day.

2 small windows with no ventilation, could get stuffy in the warmer months. Too many beds in one room, side by side no gap in between, sleeping next to a stranger is not for me. Female staff member really didn’t take the time to explain, didn’t seem interested and was not at all friendly.

The food was comforting and delicious, and the portions were unexpectedly generous. The view and location are truly unbeatable, with such a lovely scenery that I did not really mind the small rooms at all; I could have spent the whole day relaxing outside. Overall, the accommodation was perfect for a short stay.

I would not mind the shower coin system, as it is quite water-efficient and environmentally friendly. However, the water was cold for almost the entire two minutes, which made it really uncomfortable at first. Fortunately, I had two more coins, so I was able to continue showering, but the initial experience was rather frustrating. I do understand the situation, though, as water circulation is likely limited, so this does not feel like a fault of the hosts, but rather an “it is what it is” situation. We also brought two dogs, and when we inquired in advance, the hosts kindly replied that they would prepare beds for them as well. We did not actually need it, as we brought our own, but it would have been a very thoughtful gesture. Sadly, this was not provided during our stay. That said, the room was quite small, so it is possible there would not have been space for additional dog beds anyway.

Vi gikk Alpe Adria Trail fra Kranjska Gora med barn. Hytta lå perfekt til nær stien for å korte ned etappen. Enkle, men komfortable rom. God frokost og middag.

Erjaceva mountain hut is a very comfortable way to stay so remotely. The staff make every attempt to accomodate people well. There is a jovial atmosphere in the dining room with other travellers/walkers.

If you bring your car, the winding narrow roads will be challenging, and free parking spaces few. There is no free parking at the hut so we paid 15 Euros per day which added significantly to the cost of our stay, and paid more for parking throughout our stay as we went to other places, where we also had to pay. In that sense the hut became poor economic value. If one was walking beyond the hut , the snow (unexpected) made it unviable to do higher walks. Not sure the public transport is plentiful nor is it well advertised as an alternative. Maybe some improvements in tourism marketing required.
