Dulan Tranquilo Hostel 台東都蘭晃輕鬆背包客棧

The location is very nice and the volunteering staff was extremely friendly

I didn’t feel comfortable in the hostel at all. There were a lot of rules, with many just not making sense. For example, the airconditioner was only allowed to be used between 9 pm and 10 am, which made staying at the hostel room during the day with 35+ degrees heat absolutely unbearable. Another rule was that you were only allowed to eat at the first floor of the hostel, which also served as as cafe/restaurant, but you were not allowed to eat or drink anything there from outside during the opening hours of the cafe/restaurant. Which essentially made eating some snacks very difficult. The hostel was also extremely unkept and showering was almost impossible since I almost fainted due to the heat.

Good location, 7eleven across the street

There are an extreme amount of rules in this hostel, and its not clean. You will faint from the heat when using the bathroom, there are lizards running on every wall and you are not allowed to eat or drink anything in the rooms or the terraces. Even the aircon can only be used during the night. Although nobody made a comment, its very uncomfortable to feel like you aren’t allowed to live. Also, you share one bathroom with 18 people, so you have to wait for over an hour to use the toilet if multiple people are waiting to shower.

Relaxed and easy-going place to stay at the main road in Dulan. The hostel and the village as well really has a backpacker vibe and in the end I extended my stay to relax a bit more. The upper floor terrace is a treasure with sea-view.

The guys who run this place were so nice and friendly. We like the atmosfere and their music very much.

I liked the location and the friendliness and knowledge of the staff.

I understand that the hostel is on the older end so there isn't much that can be done about that. When I was there it wasn't the busy season so that was a plus, but imagine it being a busy season, one bathroom on the floor that I was located at wouldn't be enough.
