there wasn't anything that i didn't like about grinton lodge.

The property is set in a stunning location for hiking.

I booked to stay in a pod for a weekend with my 1 year old. At 10pm on our first night, the electrics went off, meaning so did the heating. It was far too cold to stay with no heating, so after spending some time trying to find an emergency contact number, I managed to get through to the out of hours. Just gone 11.30pm and we were moved into an inside dorm as the electrics had been shorted. The heating in the dorm was on full blast and the radiator knob was broke, so it couldn’t be turned down or off. It was so hot that my 1 year old started vomiting. The dorm had 6 single beds so I was not able to share with my son, who because of his age, wasn’t safe to sleep in a single alone. I had to make a bed on the floor for him with a duvet. Pairing the floor with him vomiting because of the heat in the room - neither of us slept a wink. I packed my car at 6.30am, went for a walk and handed the keys back when reception opened around 9am. I asked to speak with a manager regarding a partial refund as we wouldn’t be able to stay the second night - there wasn’t one around, so my details were written and I was to expect a call. Over a week later and I still have heard nothing. I submitted a complaint through booking.com which was passed to customer relations at YHA over a week ago - and again, I’m yet to hear anything. I really wanted to like our stay here and was planning on returning with my eldest. I think I will stay elsewhere.

It was excellent value for money, offering great comfort and all the necessary facilities. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the stay even more enjoyable. A perfect choice for an affordable and comfortable getaway.

The staff were friendly also helpful and the location was amazing. If the out of hours staff hadn’t checked on line we would not have been able to stay so on seeing the online they did their best and they phoned to ask our arrival time so they could have someone on site.

The hostel was closed, the manager communicated this on route, however the staff went out of their way to help. There was no meals available on anrrival and we had to ask for tea/coffee. The bed wasn’t made up or the room cleaned so we had to change rooms. The bathroom was up another floor and not en-suite it was cold and not clean and in disrepair
