Nice place, clean, good atmosphere

Excellent location and great facilities.

Amazing stay! One of the oldest houses in town (1907), so don't expect state of the art bathrooms and kitchens, but it has everything you need plus a lot more... It has the most love, feels like a home, the bathrooms/toilets are clean, you can do your laundry and everything is so beautiful! And on top of that, the owner Zara is the most lovely person we met. She works very hard to keep this house up, the hostel running and to make you feel at home. So be kind and respectful to everything offered to you, and clean up after yourselves. Together we can make this diamond shine even brighter.

The room was good, 5 bed mixed dorm. The breakfast was good, I think there should be bigger bowls available, as I could t cook myself some porridge in the microwave, small point, but relatively easy fix. The bed was comfortable, but i did squash a very small round black bug that walked across me whilst sitting on my bed, and it was full of blood, I’m thinking a bed bug of some sort? But I do t know if I got bitten, ie no lumps or itches. I was in Nelson to play field hockey so didnt do any tourist stuff.

I had such a great time staying at The Palace that I ended up extending my stay by several days longer than I originally planned. Truth be told, I didn’t actually want to leave! The hostel has a really lovely, relaxed vibe, and the hosts are super friendly and accommodating. Zara in particular is a really special lady, you can tell she genuinely cares about her guests and goes out of her way to make people feel welcome. It’s also very affordable, and I loved that there are no bunk beds. I’d absolutely recommend staying here.
