The Birdhouse Backpackers Hostel

I’ve rarely come across such a good hostel. I met such great people there, the place is lovely and they provide for breakfast and dinner. There is sometimes a bonfire which sets a nice and cozy atmosphere.

The bunk beds could offer more privacy with curtains and they’re a bit shaky, but yeah it’s a dorm 😏

The location was good. As a birdwatcher, I was happy to see many birds (like Rosefinch, Common Hawk-cuckoo, Fantails, and the more common bulbuls, white-eyes and sparrows). The community and the overall environment was very nice, with the boardgames and musical instruments too. I had dinner and breakfast once each during my stay and it was good.

Both breakfast and dinner were delayed. And, the portion sizes were too much - Even half portion of the sabzi for the rotis was way too much - Lesser quantity for lesser cost would have been better. Or, if informed earlier about the portion sizes, 2-3 of us could have easily shared a half portion of the sabzi!

Very nice hostel lying on a peaceful hill above Coonoor, with a little garden which it’s perfect to relax. Very strategic position for hiking. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
