"Remote, rugged, nature stay."

7.0

The location: The property is in an absolutely stunning location. But it’s extremely remote and getting there on foot is extremely difficult. There is a bus that will shuttle you from the station to the property but the ticket process is a bit confusing and you cannot buy one on your phone without an Italian phone number. They sell tickets at the tourist stop at the station but it closes early. AND the bus runs on specific times only. There are a couple of places to eat closer to the property but they close ~somewhat~ early, at least by Italian standards, so I didn’t go there. There is a wonderful pizza place in Setta which is down the mountain - roughly a .8 mile walk down very very many stairs. And that means you also have to walk back up after - presumably in the dark (which I did) and there is not adequate lighting for most of the way (I had to use my phone flash light). I really can’t stress enough how beautiful the landscape and the area is but I also can’t stress enough how inaccessible this place is for anyone that isn’t very able bodied and traveling light. Even the bus that takes you up is small, it’s a van not a proper bus. The roads are far too tight and winding for a bus. So, there’s really no room for luggage. I had a small backpack a duffel and a little grocery bag and even that was difficult to manage. It really is a wonderful and quiet place in nature but that means that there are bugs inside and outside. If you want to hike there are trails all around - if you want to go to the beach you will have to walk all the way down the mountain or get a bus ticket in advance and make sure the time corresponds with your plans and get a ride down that way. I walked down and explored the area and went to a little pebble beach down the coast. It was honestly really amazing and like I said it is just breathtakingly beautiful in every single direction. Bring your own sunscreen and bug spray because again - you are not going to find any around there.
