We absolutely loved the welcome Mark and Lisette gave us. The location was fantastic and breakfast and supper is really good. Mark gave us a Salsa workshop, which we really liked. They really did their best to make your stay unique. It is also very nice that you can rent a scooter right from the hostel.

It would have been nice if there would have been a small fridge to keep drinks cool and store some water overnight if you leave early in the morning.

Learned this was one of the original hostels on Ometepe. Breakfasts and dinners were freshly prepared with local ingredients. Their dogs and cats were very nice to spend time with. The hosts can lease scooters and deliver them for competitive prices. Communication with host prior to and during stay was excellent.

Located on the main road so there was vehicle noise during the day but not at night. Evenings were peaceful.

Very friendly host family. Rooms are spacious and clean. Centrally situated on the island. Great value for money.

The food was fresh and delicious at a good price. We watched the hosts roast and grind the coffee fresh and it tasted wonderful. The host family and their pets were all friendly. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom situation adequate. They can communicate with customers in English, Spanish, Dutch, and German!

The inside of the rooms could use a coat of paint, but it's a work in progress that the host family is obviously making continual improvements on.

It was close from different sites.

Too much noise between the roosters/dogs etc hard to get a good night sleep.

We felt super welcomed and enjoyed our stay very much. Breakfast and dinner were amazing and we are glad we decided to stay at la penita.

Lizz was SO nice and so so helpful. she helped us organise ATVs and scooters, gave us helpful tips and maps of the island. the day we left she made sure we got on the public bus ok. Lizz’ mama was amazing too and cooked all our meals , they were absolutely delicious and everyone ate together which made it feel like a home away from home. we stayed here because of the reviews and we’d recommend it to anyone! Beautiful local family who are very kind and working very hard to run a amazing hostel. THANK YOU for having us :)

nothing. the water did stop one night but they were straight on it to fix it!

very cosy, had everything you needed good location and Liz is very very friendly and helpful!
