Mapping Hostel

This is my second long stay at Mapping Hostel and I can only recommend it. It's in a relatively "quieter" part of Chiang Mai, still conveniently located close to the Rimping supermarket, a 7-eleven, 10 minute walk from some food markets and located just by the river. Free hot and cold filtered water, free coffee in the morning and cheap price if you need to use the washing machine or the gas in the kitchen. There is a microwave and refrigerator free of use and plenty of storage space for your dry food, as well as a storage room. To my knowledge, the place is run by a European guy who gave a second chance to this place (thank you !) while keeping its original vibe, which I would defined as chill, authentic and especially one of the last excellent value for money around CNX. On day-to-day the place is managed and maintained by some kind thai people who stay on-site and are all lovely if you take the time to interact with them. Personally I love the fact that here you get to be amongst a mix of travelers and locals and not just amongst westerners. The outside area is beautiful, with lots of nice little corners to chill in, a fish pond, some bamboo platforms, some sunbeds by the river... some people say cleanliness is not spot on, but if guests would start being a tad more considerate, cleaning after themselves and washing their own dishes, that could be a different story. There are plenty of bins and dish soap so it's on you fellow travelers to behave and not let the dishes for Oma to clean. The dorms are simple, yet doing their job. No curtains here so you'll have to improvise one or be conscious about basic rules of community living. Aircon from 5pm to 11am and authentic thai hard mattress (you better get used to them, it's not the last place you gonna sleep on one). All in all if you want a cheap, yet charming and authentic place to stay while visiting Chiang Mai, welcome to Mapping !
