The Madison House

It had the charm and warmth of an old home, repurposed as a travel destination for people needing accommodations.

The website and confirmation said no smoking. Every night on our return, we had to pass through a gauntlet of smoking coming in the front door. We never saw or met any staff in person: we were there Tuesday - Sunday. There were no clean towels available- we used and rewatched the initial towels we were provided. We were very active-vacation- so showered daily. Of the three shared bath/showers, one shower was “Out of Order” the entire time. The house was fully booked the entire time. We may have missed that no fresh towels in the many pages of rules, all with fines of $200-$1000/infraction. We were surprised no fresh towels. Also, we thought our confirmation was for two beds; we were two persons. We had one bed, and the room was so small, that the bed was flush with the wall on three sides. Avoid booking the Yellow Room on the first floor unless you are solo..

The linens and room was not fully clean. The floor had a crumb. The fleece blanket had a bit of candy stuck to it. The room smelled like dog. The room was very small. Bugs got into the room.

This was my second stay at the Madison Hotel and it did not disappoint! The location is fantastic and the upper rooms have a great view of downtown, especially during the winter months. There are some great places to eat and drink within walking distance and the neighborhood is NE friendly. Sandy the house manager is a pure delight, is always available with a smile and goes above and beyond in all that she does. The facilities are wonderful and have two spacious kitchens that have every amenity that you would need for either a short or extended stay. Excellent Wi-fi connection! Highly recommend!

The property is in a rather unappealing area but it was in close proximity to the location of the event we were in town to attend. Free street parking was a plus. The window air conditioner in our room was functional and the sheets on the bed were clean.

Our room was the size of a shoebox and the bathroom was shared. The furniture in our room was spartan and looked like it had come from Goodwill (bare metal bed frame with a thin mattress, cheap rickety plastic clothing rack, old drooping curtain rod with panels of cheap fabric hanging from it that didn’t even match). The place felt like an old, rundown rooming house that had been patched over and painted in a slapdash fashion. The kitchen upstairs was not all that clean and the building had a funky odor. The carpet on the stairway was worn and stained. All of this was extremely off-putting.

Will tell people not to book on this site at all
