GRAN hostel

This hostel felt more like long-term worker accommodation than a typical hostel for travelers. Many guests seemed to be living there permanently, which created a very different atmosphere than expected. As a solo female traveler, I was placed in a room with four men, even though I was told there were no other rooms available — while there appeared to be an entirely empty 6-bed room. I don’t understand that decision, and it made me uncomfortable. Some long-term residents seemed very much at home (walking around barefoot or in towels in common areas), which reinforced the feeling of being in a workers’ dormitory rather than a hostel. To be fair, the men in my room were ultimately kind and respectful, but the initial situation made me feel unsafe and uneasy. I think solo female travelers should be aware of this setup. Personally, I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it as a typical hostel experience.

Gran Hostel is located just off the main square, is surrounded by every restaurant, pub, club, attraction you need to check out while you are in Banská Bystrica. The area is safe, lively, and you can get to every attraction within a 5-minute walk. The square is the perfect place to chill out on a nice day. The owner of the hostel is super nice and is ready to help you with anything you need. The facilities in the hostel are great, the kitchen is basic, but adequate for cooking and making your own meals. The beds are comfy, the rooms are a good size, there are huge lockers for your stuff, and the common areas are great to chill out in.

The only thing I would suggest is to have sockets for charging next to the beds. There were no sockets near my bed that I could find. Not a deal-breaker at all, it would just be much more convenient than having my gadgets across the room.

Býval som v zdieľanej izbe na jednu noc pre 6 osôb. Boli sme 3ja. Nebol problém. Spoločná kuchynka a kúpeľňa všetko funkčné, klasický hostel štýl. Ja som bol spokojný. Lokalita je jednoznačne veľké plus. Cenovo tiež výhodné. Ďakujem!
