We booked and paid for a barrel house at this campsite. On the day of arrival, we received the check-in information — it was a self check-in, and we were told we could enter the campsite by car until 10 PM. We also received the code for the key safe. We arrived around 9:30 PM, found the key box, entered the code — but it was completely empty. We looked around in case the key had fallen out, searched the area for anyone who could help, but there was no one at the campsite. We called Booking.com, and even they tried to contact the property, but couldn’t reach anyone. As a result, we had to spend the night in our car in 6°C and rain. The next morning, when we went back, the staff told us that someone from another campsite had somehow taken our key and slept peacefully in our accommodation. How that person knew the code to the key box remains a mystery. It’s absolutely unbelievable and unacceptable that something like this can happen in a managed campsite. To make things worse, we still haven’t received a refund for the more than €70 we paid — although that part is likely an issue on Booking.com’s side.
