Koh Chang Baanrimtalay

We absolutely LOVE these people. The two owners (he claims they’re not married, but I know better), and their associate “Selina,” are terrific individuals. They do everything (well, the ladies do, I’m not entirely sure what the husband does there exactly), from cooking, cleaning, arranging rides, making suggestions, teaching us how to bow and courtesy, renting scooters, getting a rental car, they do it all! This place could be Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, SE Asia style. It’s laid back, tranquil, on the water. It’s a small fishing community with about 10 shacks, some over the water, some on land. It’s very close walk to the ferry (5 minutes). Situated on the north side of the island, away from all of the tourists on the west side, and accessible to the more rural east side (which we prefer). There’s no beach, but who cares, when you’re on a dock facing the Thai mainland, watching the ferries come and go, it doesn’t get any better than this. The room was clean, they provided 4 bottles of water per day, every day (we were there five days). But, do recall I mentioned Margaritaville, the room has little geckos living in it (one behind the AC unit on the wall, and one behind the bed). We love the geckos as they eat the bugs and make chirping sounds at night, but you may not be ready for such housemates, so the choice is yours. Go stay on the expensive snooty west side of the island, no one’s stopping you.

We were greeted by a lovely lady who welcomed us, checked us in and soon after managed to cook us a simple Pad Thai, which was very welcoming after 7 hours on a bus. The bed sheets were lovely and clean.

It was obviously a very old building so you would expect some deterioration, however the bedroom tilted downwards so in bed your head was dipping down, the bathroom shower wall had a very large crack so you could see outside, there were cracks in most walls… but as i said it’s an old building

Close to ferry port, staff really helpful, room was clean and comfortable!

Far from rest of island, had to pay key deposit which I wasn’t aware of initially, but still everything went as expected

Excellent location- 5 min walk from ferry terminal. No need to get a taxi. The accommodation is clean and the rooms are big enough with a little balcony to sit outside overlooking the sea. The room is clean and beds very comfortable. Has air conditioning and a fridge. The food was really good and extremely reasonably priced and fresh. If you’re on a budget don’t miss booking here. Ask for Sabina who is the friendliest and most helpful person you could hope to meet and her English is very good. We had pedicures and massages which were very relaxing and well priced. Definitely value for money. Remember, it’s basic but you won’t regret your stay here.

We only stayed for one night as we arrived late on Koh Chang. The hotel is in walking distance to the port. We had a tasty dinner and the bed was also really comfortable. Our room also had a bathroom with hot water shower.

Needed somewhere at the port. Quaint over water rooms. Lovely service. Simple menu, all good
