Review: Durban Tugela Mouth Resort / Tugela Mouth Resort One of my biggest disappointments right from the start was the complete lack of communication from management. I informed them well in advance that, due to an early morning flight, I needed to check out at 5:30 a.m. I never received a single reply. I paid a R400 cash key deposit with the full expectation that someone would meet me for checkout, especially since I had arranged it from my side. Again, no response. After leaving, I sent multiple WhatsApp messages requesting the return of my deposit, and they still haven’t had the decency to reply. At this stage, my R400 key deposit seems to be gone. Safety Concerns on the Beach The beach felt anything but safe. On our very first (and only) visit, an elderly man behaved inappropriately toward my 15-year-old daughter right there on the beach. We immediately left and never returned. Instead, we had to drive roughly 15 km every single day just to reach a beach that offered lifeguards, security, and a safe family environment. Condition of the Accommodation – Filthy and Completely Run Down The unit itself was in terrible condition: The fridge hadn’t been defrosted in years. The microwave was rusted and barely functional. The stovetop was extremely old, and the only pan provided was so warped that it took over 20 minutes to cook a single egg. Self-Catering Without the Basics For a place calling itself “self-catering,” not having the basics is completely unacceptable. No dishwashing liquid. No dish towels. No scrubbing sponge. No basic cleaning supplies. They even provided a mop—but no bucket, making it impossible to clean the floors unless I went out and bought one myself. Because none of the essentials were provided, I actually went and bought dishwashing liquid, dishcloths, and other necessary items out of my own pocket. But like anyone travelling by airplane, I couldn’t take these large items back with me.

The owner is extremely rude and displayed violent racial behaviour. Incorrect advertisment of the property and the owner went on to blame Booking.com. saying that its not their website. Extremely dirty and stove did not work. And we supposedly were to bring our own braai rack as the braai stands were bare and owner doesnt provide. Very bad experience . Owners spouse literally came to our unit to apologise for her husbands behaviour to the extend that she luterally offered us 2 night free stay further. But obviously we didnt wanna stay there any longer .
