Matatane Camp - Babanango Game Reserve

The family unit was great, very comfortable. The catered option was excellent and food was great. The unit does have a full self catering set up as well. The view from the pool is epic.

There was activities, however we had to ask about them, they were not mentioned or shown to us when we were there. Also note that this camp is fenced off from the Big 5 Reserve and self drive trips are not allowed. guided game drives are not guaranteed, we had one confirmed only to be cancelled as the main lodge got preference.

Friendly staff. Wonderful views. Very comfortable rooms. Loved the swimming pool.

Uns hat der Aufenthalt sehr gut gefallen. Die Unterkunft liegt mitten in der Natur. Es ist sehr ruhig und vom schön angelegten Pool hat man eine super Aussicht. Das Frühstück und das Abendessen waren sehr lecker. Besonders hervorzuheben ist das wirklich freundliche und zuvorkommende Personal vor Ort!

The location of the unit was great with lovely views

The car port covering for the cars compared to the car ports for staff, no cart to take our luggage to our unit, no fire hydren at the unit on the deck as there was a gas stove, lighting on the deck not great, pots and pans for 2 Guests, it seems the unit caters for 10 plus guests. Shower was dirty, BBQ grid did not fit the racks on the wall

Fantastic friendly staff and very well appointed lodges. Game drives were exceptional and the highlight was the opportunity to walk in the bush and find the cheetah family with 4 cubs

A minor point..if game drives could start at Matatane instead of Zulu Rock lodge.

We had a truly special Easter weekend at Matatane Camp. Sakhi, our host, went above and beyond to ensure our large family group was well taken care of. The game drive was one of the best I’ve been on — not only were the guides knowledgeable, but they made it interactive by asking trivia questions about the animals, birds, and plants we encountered. A real highlight was the Easter egg hunt and bush lunch next to the river — such a thoughtful touch! The presence of bees during our lunch felt symbolic and meaningful to us, as they represent good luck in the Nkabinde family. The weather was perfect, the staff exceptional, and the rooms were immaculate — exactly what you’d expect from a property of this standard.

The breakfast was tasty, but could use a bit more variety in the menu.
