SHALOM CAMP

I really enjoyed the beach hut, and the lovely staff.

Shalom camp is very basic accommodation right on Bucana Beach. My hut had two fans and 3 electric sockets and a good overhead light. No mosquitoes. The bathrooms were kept clean, and the kitchen area accessible to cook simple meals on a hotplate or boil water for tea or coffee. Rambo the dog was recovering from losing a fight and appreciates some affection. Was lucky enough to witness baby turtles making a dash for the sea!! There are restaurants along the beach serving all the usual suspects. Kiku, was lovely and even made us fish and rice for lunch one day. Local shops available for fruit, bread, eggs, etc. There is a nice seating area to sit and meet other guests. Beach is lovely, but it does suffer from a lot of plastic polution brought in on the tide which is a shame. Some small effort is made to clean up parts of it. Tide can come in very high, and care should be taken when receeding. A 17 year old boy unfortunately drowned whilst I was there. Perhaps he simply got out of his depth and was a poor swimmer. I don't know.

The bus from El Nido doesn't leave at 2pm as per advice, it leaves at 3pm. The bus doesn't cost 80 pesos it costs 150 and it takes about 90 minutes not 45. Also note that it does not run on Sunday.

We loved our stay in Shalom camp Thanks to the host Kiko who is a true gem ! Really friendly and helpful for any request (transport, things to do, fishing, karaoke… 😁) dont hesitate to experience life with a true local

Accomodation is a bit tiny and matress could be thicker but you live outside and the place is big

It was clean and the rooms were as described. The host is very friendly although doesn't speak much English. The location is at the beach so that's nice too.

There is no running water in the toilet and nowhere in the description does it say that. The pressure in the shower is so low, you can't wash your toothbrush not to mention your hair... Honestly, if I knew about the toilet situation, I wouldn't have picked this place. Another thing is that there was no contact with the owner over the booking app...

There's really nothing that I liked apart from the owner. He was nice and helpful. The cabin was actually quite horrendous. There was literally not a single tiny shelf where you could put your things. Of course, everything was on the floor. Extremely dirty floor cuz eventually you drag all the sand from outside into your cabin. And the cabin is tiny so you have to maneuver just to open the bathroom door. There was no light in the bathroom. The light bulb just wasn't installed. The mosquito net was folded in the corner , we didn't even notice it until the end of our stay, and one night ended up with a giant bug inside the cabin, which was quite terrifying. The village is literally in the middle of nowhere. To go back to el nido it takes more than an hour on geepney , there's no taxis. Like I said, the owner was nice, he actually offered to take us Island hopping and fishing. And the price was really low. The view from the cabin was quite spectacular at night, that's about the only thing that I liked.

Even if you're looking for cheap accommodation I don't recommend it. I stayed in similar camps before, and so far, that was the worst. The horrible location, the lack of even basic amenities just make the stay awful. The good nature of the owner just can't make up for that. But like I said, he was really trying to make our stay better, and I'm thankful for that.
