Mallara RestSafari (Cabana & Family Restaurant)

Our stay at Mallara Rest Safari was truly incredible! If you're a nature lover, this place is an absolute must-visit. Babi and his staff are exceptionally hospitable, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The accommodation itself is beautifully designed, blending perfectly with its surroundings. Right next to the property, we saw various animals passing by—during the day, water buffaloes and stunning birds, and at night, even elephants! The food was absolutely delicious, adding to the overall experience. Staying in the treehouse was magical—it allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in nature, listening to the soothing sounds of wildlife at night, which felt almost meditative. Babi also took us to explore different local spots, showing us breathtaking views and beautiful scenery that we wouldn't have found on our own. We also arranged a safari nearby, exploring the nearby Yala Block 5 and 6, where we were lucky enough to see leopards, elephants, and a variety of other animals. Overall, our experience was nothing short of amazing. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable nature getaway!

Delicious local food included in the price. Super friendly staff, beautiful location and lovely dogs!

It is a basic accommodation. You will get all you need - roof, bed and basic bathroom. Most of your time you will spend in the shared space (music, fireplace, swings)

Had a wonderful experience staying at the RestSafari. The place is set up in a big area where one can rest comfortably, and looks out on the jungle, where many animals (mainly buffaloes, peacocks, elephants, varanes, foxes) pass by during the day/night. Owners (and staff) are taking good care and are very friendly & relaxed. Nice campfires and surprisingly few mosquitoes. Slept really well in the cabana (great experience!) in a nice, natural breeze, and my room had a nice viewing spot to lay down and look out over the jungle area. Possible to take safari’s from here. The food/drinks served were also real good. Happy to have stayed/rested here. For directions: many (if not all) busses from Ella/Wellawaya to Matara/Tissamaharama will pass close by the RestSafari. Get off at 22 Junction (bus drivers know). It will cost about Rs. 200-350, and from the Junction you can take a local bus, tuktuk or arrange something with the RestSafari.

We were looking for accommodation near the katharagama and we encountered the accommodation of Diana and his husbands place. It is soooooo beautiful, a real pearl in the middle of a green jungle and a paddy field. Two EXCELLENT (((((!!) clean room equipped with everything you need, beautiful setting, beautiful room (we moved the outside bathroom). Diana and his husband are very helpful, very welcoming, open-minded and are excellent hosts. we were offered a local dinner on site (not too spicy for tourists), super good!!!. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. they organized the village Safari Tour for us free of charge. We had a great driver and a terrific safari. Excellent local breakfast! I recommend this hotel 100%. Unbeatable value for money! If we had not already booked an accommodation in galle, - we would have stayed another one or two nights. People.
