Rainbow Sky Cottage

The spectacular view, the comfortable massive beds, the people and especially the location. We were surrounded by monkeys ! They made us feel very welcome and we had an amazing dinner there too. The location is right next door to Bees Honey restaurant which is a massive bonus as they do amazing food and drinks there too. The famous Ella train track is just below the property and you can walk the track to Ella. Takes about 20 minutes and you see monkeys and little cafes along the track. Perfect location.

The access to the property is restricted due to the road being so steep and a bit narrow but the owner is more than happy to collect you in his vehicle from the main road area. We had our own vehicle and decided to brave it !

We had an excellent stay at Rainbow Sky cottage, for 3 nights, the room was large with a lovely bath on the balcony which we enjoyed after our long days hiking. Excellent location a lovely walk to Ella along the railway and ideal location for Ella’s rock and the Pekoe trail. Lovely little restaurants close by which we went to. Stunning views I wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you

- We loved the views and the enormous balcony, that was breathtaking. - The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. - The owner’s mother and son were so kind to us and happy to help with anything. - There was a great place nearby called Freedom Cafe where we went for meals. Would recommend. - The laundry came back clean and nicely folded. - The property is not too far from town - about 20 minute walk following the train line. I would not do it at night though - you can get a Tuktuk.

Overall we would recommend the place due to the views, but to make the score to a 10, we’d recommend a few improvements: - We would recommend the owner to be more responsive and helpful over WhatsApp. When he did reply, it was very brief and unhelpful, like he did not really want to be asked. The property is far from town, on an extremely steep hill, so it’s not easy to find your way around without some advice. Perhaps he could write a page of FAQs if he is too busy to respond properly. - The property is close to Ella Rock, but when we asked how to get there he just replied “maps.me”. We followed the route on maps.me and it was deserted, and we ended up going through dense bushes where there could have been snakes. If we had gone for sunrise in the dark, it would have been dangerous. We’d actually recommend following All Trails instead! we did that trail on the way back and it was lovely :) (remember to take cash as you have to pay some rupees at the top to see the view, but it’s not much). - We asked for some advice organising tours. He ignored the message sometimes, and other times he gave out our mobile number to tour companies without our consent. Again - it felt like he was too busy to help us or tell us more about the local area. - The room is in need of some real maintenance. The lights were not working properly and we had to ask for them to be fixed. The hair dryer was faulty. The shelves were coming down, and the plants in the room were dying. The water pressure in the shower was inconsistent. It’s a great place but needs some TLC to be worth the price. I think it can be fixed easily within a day to make it feel more loved!!

Excellent rooms and welcoming staff. There is a good restaurant (Bees Honey) next to the hotel.

It is difficult to get to, with a steep single track road. Hotel will provide a tuk tuk ride to the main road. It is still a fair distance from the centre of town.

L'emplacement est magique car en pleine nature avec les singes, peacocks et autres oiseaux pour compagnie lors du petit déjeuner sur la terrasse. Une terrasse pour nos chambres très agréable et bien équipée. Des chambres spacieuses et confortables.

Le wifi ne fonctionne pas très bien. L'hôtel n'est pas accessible pour les véhicules mais celui-ci propose des navettes gratuites.

Hotel is very responsive on whatsapp and they arranged all tuk tuks for us for the days we were in Ella for very good price. It was nice we couldnpay directly to hotel for the rides. The location is really nice, while scary to reach the first time by hotel drivers, it's really beautiful. 2 min walk down the hill you can reach the railway for a nice hike ok the rails towards waterfall or other peaks, or towards ella.

Very good service. The hotel was difficult to reach by tuk tuk but it was worth the ride. Easy 25min walk to to town along the train tracks. During dark hours our owner arranged always a tukttuk from the city. Amazing view from the balcony. Very nice and clean room with good shower.
