AUA fabulous Japanese B&B in the heart of Puli Made to feel very welcome.
DEPerfect central location in the town of Puli, about a 5 minutes walk to the center of town and main bus station for day trips to Sun Moon Lake or Chingjin Farm with kids or the city of Taichung. Plenty of good food options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner within walking distance. The renovated styling of the old Japanese colonial times doctor clinic (maybe hospital ?) looked great and added a lot of character to the stay. The restoration photos strategically placed around the different parts of the building told a beautiful story. The central dining, chilling area was good with tables and utensils for meals and mosquito repellent to keep you from being sucked dry.
The room we had was not clean. The entrance floor could've been swept and mopped. The toilet should've been scrubbed more thoroughly as we checked-in and can still see the previous users markings in the bowl. If there was a scrubber next to the toilet, I guess one can easily give the toilet bowl a scrub, but really, that's the host's job. We found the traditional Japanese room style with tatami mat floor fine and fitting for the theme, but the futon for people to sleep on was paper thin and very uncomfortable to sleep on. The owners need to invest a little money on better futons for guests to sleep on. I like sleeping on firm mattresses but this was like sleeping on hardwood floors, definitely not a good choice for people that are not used to this type of sleeping arrangement. There are no blinds or window shades or curtains in the room with a large window almost covering the entire outter wall, the sunlight shines right into the room at 6:00AM, waking everyone up super early. The owners should provide curtains so guests can have better sleep.
