The Peppermint

The owners are nice and helpful. They offered us tea, we borrowed an iron and they ordered tuck tuck for us when we left so that not to be scammed (it costs 300 rupees - 1 euro to reach the center). The room had potential, it has a nice view to jungle vegetation. The house has a nice terrace.

The room was not clean, sheets were not totally clean, walls dirty, bathroom not clean.Towels were worn and white-grey. Old furniture which was not clean. No proper bathroom, as there was only a wall separating the toilet and shower. From the left side of the bed you could see the toilet,no privacy.The booking was really last minute, there was a religious festival the next day and difficult to find another place, it was raining all day, it was late when we arrived otherwise we were changing the accomodation. The accomodation had 9+ rating from reviews. We didn't expect luxury for the price we paid, but a clean very basic room. It is far from the center (about 3 km), you need tuck-tuck. Pay attention that they charge you more than normal (but still very small money, we paid 2.5 euros-700 rupees to reach the accomodation ).

This is a beautiful homestay up in the hills a little distance from the busy city. Easy to get to the town in a tuk tuk. Pringi and Srimal were wonderful hosts and looked after my every need. They made sure I knew where to go and what to do. They are lovely lovely people who absolutely deserve an excellent review. Love to them both. Things to put on your agenda... Botanical garden, Udawatta kele forest, Temple of the tooth, local dance performance and a fabulous massage recommended by Pringi and Srimal.

The family that runs this place couldn't be any nicer or more helpful. It is one of those places where you come in feeling like a guest and pretty much leave feeling like you are part of the family. I stopped for one night but ended up staying for 3. Would I stay again? I would feel guilty and short changed staying anywhere else. The house is situated beside a river you probably won't see. But the jungle it supports create a peaceful environment and a great escape from the crazy of Kandy. It isn't a 5 star resort, but definitely a unique and enjoyable 5 star stay.

It feels far from town. That said, you aren't more than 10 minutes away from anything, including the botanical gardens and the temples and markets of downtown Kandy.

It was fantastic stay at peppermint. Really nice location and comfortable room. Excellent hospitality given by Pringi who owns this nice home stay and I really appreciate her service.

I got a wonderful welcome from Pringi when I arrived - and a much-appreciated cup of tea. Both Pringi and her husband are lovely hosts, always happy to chat and offer information about the city and the country. Their home is a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride from central Kandy, at the end of a long, quiet residential road, carved out of the surrounding forest. If you cherish peace and quiet - and fresh air - you will find it here. The large balcony/terrace is a pleasant spot to relax - and enjoy Pringi's delicious meals.

The bed matresss is quite hard and the bed springs a little noisy - but that didn't stop me getting a very good night's sleep.

Really lovely place and lovely people. Also breakfast is delicious. Would recomend it to everyone. Thank you so much for everything, you made me feel like home ❤️

Pringi is definitely the kindest and most caring person I met during my stay in Sri Lanka. I booked very last minute as my original hotel canceled my booking while I already was on my way to Kandy. Pringi not only welcomed me as part of their family when I was panicking a bit, she also made sure I was picked up from the station and prepared me a delicious dinner. And it didn't stop there. Throughout my stay, Pringi and Sheemal helped with everything, from booking Tuktuks (and even sending them my way when I couldn't book one myself) to researching buses and generously giving tips on do's and don'ts. We had lovely talks on their big balcony, talking about Sri Lanka and their time in Europe. Like many other people wrote: Pringi and Sheemal are amazing people that everyone should meet! The Peppermint is in a quiet location on the hills surrounded by lots of trees. But don't let that stop you: it's much better than the hectic center and with Tuktuk it is very quick to reach (around 300lkr). If you are looking for a modern, luxurious hotel style room, look elsewhere (you can't find that for this price). But if you want to meet the loveliest people and feel genuinely taken care of: don't miss out on The Peppermint!

Pringi and her husband were exceptionally accomdating to my last minute booking, they did all they possibly can to insure we were comfortable.

The location can be tricky for a taxi driver, make sure to contact the host to arrange the pick up from the train station
