Stay @ Flamingo Road

The facility was good and had we not had the home invasion whilst we were there, we would have given the room a 10 star rating. I was going to spend my night at the room on my own, but my daughter impulsively requested to join me. I checked with the landlord, who was extremely kind about it and, despite my offering to pay in the difference, was very gracious and happy to have her there. Big plus on hospitality. We actually double checked with him and he repeated that she was welcome and did not want us to top up the fee. We appreciated it. Nice tea tray, room was a bit "old", but bedding and towels fresh and room was clean and garden lovely.

NOT SAFE whatsoever. Unfortunately, things didn't go according to plan. Whilst per above all was good, the security was exceptionally lacking. The gaps between the burglar bars are excessively large, enough so that a person could climb through, which is what happened. It was a very hot and muggy EL night, temp about 29 & humidity 70. The room does not have AC but only a floor fan. This was clearly inadequate so we opened the windows on the garden side to create a draft. The driveway side is NOT behind security. Security beams were disarmed as the landlord "didn't know what time my daughter would be leaving" and failed to check with her. During the night, whilst sleeping, some yobs climbed through the bars, took our phones from either side or our bed, rummaged through our bags and left with all our valuables, including laptop, daughters bag containing her medical equipment (stethoscope etc) & my back pack. Handbags, wallets etc. The theory offered by the incompetent, disinterested police (10111 was not answered) was that we were sedated/gassed- we were able to use the landlord's home phone to get help, using numbers we knew from membory. The perpetrators had broken through the garden gate and it would appear were easily able to scale the wall. Cars in the driveway are open to the street, without any secured parking. I cannot in all consciousness recommend anybody to stay here until these issues are addressed. We were exceptionally fortunate not to have been bodily harmed. Daughter's car keys were taken and the car was stolen as well. On top of which we were locked into the room as the keys were taken and we had to break out by forcing open the double door Lastly - the landlord was not insured for paying guests. So on top of the immense trauma, we suffered financial losses in excess of R 30 000.

I live around East London and my house is being renovated , I’m telling you this is a home away from home a 11/10 and a 10 for the host.. should I need a place again I’ll be back 🙂

NOTHING

The owner was super helpful & nice, accommodating us even when booking on the day we arrived. Don't expect something too modern and new but appreciate the beautifully old high ceilings & wooden doors. There were even some tea, coffee & rusks waiting for us. The location was also amazing - 5-7min from everything we needed to see/do in EL.

Location is nice and peaceful and the area felt safe. Ubers were easily accessible. The owner was quick to respond to messages. WiFi speed and connectivity was great. Best rusks I’ve had in a while.

Peaceful and neat

The location is perfect for a quick in and out trip to visit family. I enjoyed the personal I traction with the host.

Carpets are a bit worn

All necessities were available.

We couldn't swim, the swimming pool wasn't ready.
