Beyond Eco Living

We stayed at Beyond Eco Resort for just one night between Munnar and Athirapally, but in those 24 hours we left feeling like family. The kindness and courtesy of Ashiq were truly remarkable. He explained that the chef was on a well‑deserved day off after a busy period, and with only us staying that night, he decided to host an open cooking session. What unfolded was a step‑by‑step cooking class right in front of us. As a chef from the UK, I found this to be an unforgettable experience, and my partner Beverley—who isn’t the strongest cook—eagerly jotted down every instruction to try at home. Watching Ashiq cook with such passion and generosity was magical, and the chicken curry he prepared was simply delicious—rich, aromatic, and full of flavour, the kind of dish that lingers in your memory long after the meal is over. The following morning, Ajith took us on a hike through the surrounding hills, joined by the resident dog. The trek was challenging but rewarding, and reaching the top to see the sweeping views across this magical landscape was another highlight of our stay. In just one day, it felt as though we had been here for a week, thanks to the personal care and attention we received. For anyone seeking a truly relaxing stay between Kochi and Munnar, I cannot recommend Beyond Eco Resort highly enough. The scenery, the bird watching, and above all the hospitality made this a stay we will never forget.

Location and staff

The location and the setting is peaceful and picteresque. The hospitality of people working there is truly commendable.

The rates of lunch and dinner menus’ were quite expensive. They could offer a variety of food other than offering a buffet system.

A unique boutique hotel that felt like an oasis within the natural surroundings with beautiful considered design details adding to the rustic feel. The room was very comfortable and the hotel very considerately upgraded our room so that we were located away from the large group that was also staying at the time, to ensure that we had the most peaceful stay.

Unfortunately although the property claims to be in Munnar it is in fact 1.5 - 2 hr drive to Munnar and any of the surrounding hill stations and tea plantations. We also felt as though the staff could have been a little bit more informed about activities in the surrounding area since when asked about visiting a tea plantations they could we’re not able to help with much information. Additionally, when asked about what was involved in the hotel’s jeep safari package, the information given was not very explanatory at all.

The best place to have relaxing days. The property manager Arun was extremely kind and happy to provide whatever we needed. He also showed us the nature around, and did a 1h trekking to watch sunrise from the mountain. I loved the fresh watermelon juices, and drinking them in the pool. I would totally come back :D!!!

Can get a bit noisy during prayer time due to the multiple temples around

The hotel has huge potential, but the staff is not motivated to maintain it properly. It has a beautiful location, although far from most sightseeing.

The cleanliness was poor, the manager was often spotted sitting on a chair looking at his phone in stead of making sure the pool was clean. We didn’t receive much help for arranging sightseeing tours, the only option was a very expensive taxi-tour. It was also impossible for them to make the food less spicy, we are used to a lot, but we are still European tourists, we are not built to eat that spicy. And the closest village with restaurants is a 15 minute tuktuk drive away. The dogs were also in a bad state, we felt sorry for them and started cleaning out their cages. Their waterbowls were green from the algae, and they were eating their own turds. In short, the hotel is way too expensive for the service you get.
