Check in took several hours with calls to accommodation not being answered. No English available. Required the services of a local and several messages to booking.com to gain access. Extremely disappointing

Old building, hard to go airport at night. Taxi took 25 euros.

I met a few locals who praised what the owner was doing with the house as a restoration project, and I recognise that should be supported. However, the experience was all a bit odd.

Well this was just an odd experience. This was the only time I've ever stayed somewhere and never met any staff/owner/manager. I got the door code through the booking.com app messaging and was told to choose whichever bed I wanted in the shaired room. There was nobody else staying in the rambling house, although there was a light on in a downstairs area, but nobody responded when I knocked, twice. It is in a state of disrepair, or rather currently being repaired. This might best be described as "rustic", which is not a synonym for "quaint" (e.g. wooden ceiling where some of it powders down onto the beds, no ceiling lights in the rooms, unkempt external kitchen area (bag of something in the sink), sign for wifi but no network etc.). If you believed in ghosts, you'd probably think it was haunted. Overall, if you like creature comforts, this isn't for you. Only really for travellers who don't mind it rough. Hopefully the restoration works continue, and this review soon becomes obsolete.
