Very close to the funicular leading to the Salt mines. Also walking distance to the lakeside area. The host met us even if we arrived late.

We arrived late and the whole area was dark with no street lights and no lighted houses. Our host met us outside wih a weak flashlight and tried to guide our car. Unfortunately, because of the darkness, I drove beyond the cemented edge and landed on the grass causing some minor damage to the weak cement flooring. I was charged for the damage that I caused or else the host threatened to call the police. This sad incident dampened significantly our ‘Hallstatt experience’. Wifi signal was weak and erratic. This place is also a ‘dead’ area at night with zero activity and nowhere to go to.

This is a house with several apartments and we stayed on the ground floor. The room is designed for two, but when I had a third person join our travels, they kindly added a large air mattress to the room - and we still had plenty of space. There was a fridge and coffee/tea facilities for three. WiFi was good and we used the free parking. The location is beside the car park, just across the bridge from the entrance to the funicular and salt mine, and about a 10 minute walk into the center (5 minutes from the pedestrian street entrance. Hallstatt itself is expensive, but I felt this was great value for the money. We came by car and weren’t sure of our arrival time. There was a note on the front door with a phone number to call our our hostess arrived in just a few minutes. The only problem would be if you are traveling with WiFi only and no telephone capability. You would need to make sure you clarify that ahead of time. Would definitely stay again - felt like a home and not a hotel!
