Balgal Beach Units

Easy check in & parking. Manager & staff friendly, helpful & eager to please. Comfortable bed, well- equipped self contained clean unit, hot shower, near the beach, nice clean pool where I enjoyed a swim. Pleasant leafy surrounds. Ability to talk to manager about issues such as the noisy pipes & bushfire smoke.

Wanted to like it here, went by the glowing reviews. Room very gloomy & cave-like; very close to others all around. Right on the pool - if you don't have kids it's not quiet. Disturbed sleep the 1st night due to: Very noisy fridge going all night - couldn't unplug it. Women nearby were talking loudly after 10. The waterpipes were very noisy - you could hear people flushing toilets, running taps, having showers until midnight and early in morning again! Spoke to manager about this - we're surprised he wasn't aware of the problem! There were " crashing" noises a few times during the night:- palms falling onto the roof? My feet were aggravated by the rough pebblecrete after using the pool pushing off from the sides. That stuff should be replaced. Lights in unit were terrible. The 2nd night was a nightmare as from 6pm we noticed acrid smoke filling the unit. As an asthmatic we closed off windows etc and had preventative puffers but the smoke continued all night. Rang the manager who came around that evening ( it was all in the air) but he didn't know why. I checked some websites & found that the RFS had allowed nearby farms to burn off and the hervey Range had had back burning going on. We suffered through the night, quickly packed up and left. Would have stayed another night otherwise so they lost out business. The smoke takes this rating down to 2, but I've given it a 3/5. Townsville Council and RFS get a thumbs down from us.
