The apartment is full of cockroaches, and the owner is very, very rude. It's not worth the hassle

"A stressful experience"

3.0

It was a nice unit in a good location.

It was a stressful experience that left a bad taste in our mouths. I was travelling with my husband and our small dog. We were told after making our booking that the pet tax was 50 Reais per day. That’s more than we were paying per person per night! I had a really hard time reaching the host, despite multiple messages via WhatsApp as booking, plus voice calls too, and was starting to panic because I had no idea how to check in. The last night of our stay, the host messaged to ask how we would be settling the pet tax, and I messaged back that we could meet at check out time at 12:00 and would pay cash then. I messaged on both booking.com and WhatsApp because she had been hard to reach in the past. The next morning at 9am I was awakened by a phone call from the host wanting money; I asked if we could go back to sleep and give it to her at midday when we checked out, but she insisted that we meet now. She arrived at our room 15 mins later; I gave her the cash, and she expressed surprise that we were not packed. I pointed out that we sent multiple messages indicating that we would check out at 12, which is within the check out time window. She said she would come back at 12 to inspect the room when we leave. I don’t understand why she had to wake us up to get money at 9am if she had to meet us at 12 for the inspection anyway. We had gone dancing the night before, and had been very much looking forward to sleeping in. I feel we were treated quite rudely - the host was intrusive when she wanted something from us, and nowhere to be found when we actually needed her.
