Matchroom Country Club Resort

I have stayed at another property in the Matchroom complex a couple of years ago, and I selected this location due to the surrounding area being quiet, and easy to access the local areas, and huge shopping mall, and of course Golf for those who love to pot balls into holes! Communication with the host was very good, Mikael (French chap I think) was super friendly, a really nice guy and he showed me around the apartment, he said I could contact him if I needed anything which was reassuring. The apartment is spacious in the main lounge / dining area, and the kitchen is conveniently located and stocked with so much tableware / glassware. Coffee making facilities, washing machine, dishwasher (never used it) Fridge freezer, oven, microwave. There were two irons a good sized ironing board, a huge safe, all TV's worked, you may need to change the language settings to suit. Wifi is good in the main living area, but the way this is positioned next to the television flat against the wall it provides limited coverage in the bedrooms due to the shape of the apartment. I repositioned the hub and pointed it down towards the bedrooms and the wifi was good. The second bathroom (Not the on-suite) was very clean. Great view, and overall a pleasant stay, and I would stay here again, but there are a few things I have raised with Mikael via WhatsApp to bring to his attention, and I really do hope the hosts will rectify these small issues. TIP - Always lock the door, do not just pull it closed, the lock on this door is not the most secure unless you actually turn the key.

The property has not be maintained in my opinion, (Photos attached) and is a typical rental property that has been milked over the years and very little has been done by way of maintenance and the following points in my opinion are easy fixes, with just a bit of tender loving care, or just some basic pride and a good coat of paint. Remember, this property will not be cheap in peak season, and I believe if you are paying higher prices in the summer, then the property needs to make an effort to justify this increase. The external walls on the balconies are stained and dirty, the furniture on the main balcony has seen better days. The toilet seta in the ensuite is actually falling apart and the mind boggles as to what nasties are lurking within the seat. The shower head in the main on-suite simply needs replacing it is of no use at all, so I used the second bathroom. The microwave does not work and I have a video to evidence this. The kettle leaks when you pour the hot water, so you have to press the lid down to pour this safely. Spanish apartments in general offer very little cupboard space, it is like the architects simply do not factor enough space into the design, which is just bonkers in my opinion. The bedrooms did have cupboard space with concertina doors, but the space inside is limited with additional extras that in my opinion do not need to be there and reduce your actual hanging space, hoover, mop and bucket (like that won't smell, brooms and empty boxes, and a private cupboard and enormous safe to secure those all important golf balls in the master bedroom.

Both pools and location where beautiful

Unfortunately this was the least impressive apartment we have stayed in on the Matchrooms estate. The bedroom set up was not as pictured, the 3rd bed was a pop up and the mattress was awful, you can feel every spring, meaning I had to stay on there as my children where complaining how uncomfortable it was. The tap in the main bathroom was broken, so we had to call out an engineer on the 2nd day to fix, so we had to share a bathroom until that was fixed, which was the Wednesday after we arrived on the Saturday. There was also no hot water the first two nights, the tank had been disconnected (something we didn’t know to look for) Also something we have never dealt with was the ants in the kitchen meaning you couldn’t leave anything open on the counter for long, or leave (for example) sweets open in the cupboard as they would be crawling within the hour, which meant that it was very difficult to make and enjoy food from the kitchen. The level of cleanliness of the bathrooms and bedrooms, under the sofa etc could be improved. We have stayed at the Matchrooms many times and have never experienced these problems. It was unfortunate to have paid the full price when we encountered so many problems.

This was a self catering apartment which was well equipped. Although it is a little dated. There are 2 very nice swimming pool areas.

Th complex has a lot of steps and no lifts. Therefore it was quite difficult carrying luggage to gain access to the apartment. For anyone with reduced mobility it would be extremely difficult. There are absolutely no facilities. There is no pool bar, no supermarket, no restaurant. NOTHING! A car is essential as the nearest supermarket is in Fuengirola 2 miles away but which necessitates a drive on a very busy road. Impossible to tell how long the journey would take. Anything from 5 to 25 minutes!!!! No English TV!!!!! With current technology it should be possible to provide a full TV package in various languages.

Everything was excellent, the apartment, the location, the pool. The closest beach is only a few minutes away by car. A lot of nice places to visit not far.
