Apartamentos Sunway Talaia

My girlfriend and I had an awful experience at this hotel during our stay on Friday, 29th December 2024. Upon arriving at 16:00 to check in, the receptionists were shockingly rude and unprofessional. They handed us the keys to our room without answering any of our questions or providing any help. When we opened the door to our room, we were horrified to find another family—a mother with her two young children—already inside. They were visibly scared, and understandably so, as they had checked in earlier that morning. When we returned to reception to resolve the issue, the receptionist acted as though it was our fault rather than the hotel's. Instead of apologizing for this major mistake, she seemed irritated and dismissive, even smiling smugly as though we were wasting her time. She eventually gave us keys to another room, but the ordeal didn’t end there. The keys didn’t work for either the building or the room. We ended up waiting for an hour before someone told us the only way to access the apartment was through the garage! In total, we wasted over three hours dealing with this nightmare caused by the hotel’s incompetent staff and poor management. This experience completely ruined the start of our trip. Avoid this hotel at all costs if you value your time, peace of mind, and basic courtesy!

The property is located in a quiet area with no late night noise and convenient for the beach across the road and local amenities. The view is exceptional with a lovely balcony outside the lounge and main bedroom. There is a nice private swimming pool and garden area although we were there a bit late in the season to use it. The apartment is spacious. The bed was comfortable and the showers worked. The kitchen was quite well equipped although an oven proof dish would be a useful addition. Some of the decor looked a bit tired eg flaking paint but judging from the smell of paint and noise in other apartments this is being addressed

Approach to basic hygiene: The apartment was clean on arrival. We stayed for 2 weeks and were advised that the housekeeping team would change the bedlinen after a week. When Housekeeping was a no show I messaged reception on the WhatsApp chat but still nobody appeared. When I raised this with Sunway they said they were sorry if I had been inconvenienced rather than acknowledging that their standards had fallen short. I was disappointed as I have stayed several times in the apartments at their Playa Golf Hotel and been very satisfied. Although the response was prompt when I notified a fault in the dishwasher it wasn't repaired during our stay. We discovered that the filters were filthy when troubleshooting the error messages about the fault which reinforced the suspicion that the approach to hygiene was casual. Because of drilling from building work in neighbouring apartments it was very noisy and dusty at times but I understand that this work was needed and is not a permanent situation for guests. Overall I don't feel valued as a returning customer and as this is not a cheap apartment that I have not received the service I expected for the money

Very close to the beach, nice view, enough kitchen equipments and large rooms. There is heating. Nice option the washing machine, altough not to much washing powder is provided. Enjoyed the free bike rental and free praking space.

One shower was stinky (as others also commented), must be something with the building. Some blankets were also stinky. The smaller shower was broken. Bike rental is opened only limited times, but usually no one was found at that times and had to phone the reception. Bikes are little old. Very limited amount of dishwasher salt was provided, and no washing machine detergent. Altough we leff some at last time. :)

Location is good. Right next to beach. Private pool.

Room had a terrible smell coming from ensuite. it was like something dead was stuck on the drains. impossible to miss, and it ruined our 2 day break there.

The appartment is very comfortable with a beautiful sea view and an excellent position. We spent only two nights but I would love to come back again for a longer vacation. Very nice staff! The garage is definitely a plus!

The bike rental was frustrating

Location was great right across from the beach

No instructions for the ac/heat unit, couldn't turn on the heat the finished. Called maintenance the next morning for heater instructions and sewer smell from shower. They came and showed how to use the remote for the heat ac unit and said they would put drain cleaner in the shower drain. We left and while we are out they put the heater on all day, it was an oven when we got back, and the sewer smell was worse. Called that night, they said they would send someone, but no one came and they stopped answering the phone. We put a towel over the shower drain until we left.

Breathtaking views of the sea. Huge balcony. Clean apartment. Great en-suite. Just lovely.

Very small issue but arrival pack could have contained milk or a milk substitute.
