El Jardin de los Gatos Apartament

The space is a nice size for a family of 5. We felt very comfortable. The owners were communicative and helpful. The beds were nice. Kitchen was well equipped (they actually could get rid of about 50% of the stuff). The view was very peaceful and it was a very short drive into Cáceres.

The bathroom smelled pretty bad like sewer. We tried to take a bath and couldn't due to the smell. Not sure what was causing this but for the owners, it may be something to remedy if possible. I couldn't find a hot water kettle. It could be a nice addition. This is a personal health preference, but the breakfast items were really processed breads and sugary treats. We ended up going to Cáceres to eat something healthier. Of course, if we stayed longer we could buy something in the supermarket to make, but we were there just one night.

The property is located midway between the Santander ferry terminal and our destination in the Algarve in a community of high value housing around a golf course. Our fully laden car with some quite valuable content was parked in a secure parking area beside the apartment, which is part of the owners’ house. It is close to Caceres which is well worth a visit with its superb old town (we have been before but did not do so on this visit). Luis was an excellent host and could not have been more helpful. The apartment was large, clean, warm, comfortable and exceptionally well equipped. There were more towels than we could have used in the very good bathroom and good toiletries. The good sized bedrooms have a double and a single bed, ideal for a family of four or two couples (there were 3 of us). The cost gave superb value for money and I’m sure we will return. Thanks Luis, this is probably the most glowing report I’ve written and you deserve it!

I am nit-picking here and this is hopefully helpful to Luis, who clearly goes well beyond his duty to please his guests. There was plenty of food available for breakfast; coffee, a loaf of white bread with butter and jam, ham and cheese, different types of cakes, fresh fruit and fresh milk. However we prefer a different type of breakfast with more fibre - brown bread or muesli type cereal and had either been available we would have been happier. But as I said, I’m nit-picking.

Spacious, well-provisioned apartment on the edge of town. Next to grazing cows in a bucolic setting. Courteous host, but there is a bit of a language challenge.

Further from the center than some might like. We were OK with it.
