The Castle Esplanade Residence

The location is great and the flat is spacious for three people. There is a certain ambience about the place, taking you back in time, appropriate in an a grand old city.

The steep, narrow, 3 floors of spiral stairs. Absolutely treacherous with luggage. While the linen was fresh the rest of the flat needs a good clean. The bedroom curtains are ancient and mostly off the rails. Dust everywhere.

Location was amazing, views from the windows were beautiful too, around a 100 meters from the castle wall.

Nothing, everything was great, you’d probably struggle if you are unable to walk a few flights of stairs as the apartment was on the 3rd floor.

Very close to the castle which is the main attraction. Probably the nicest possible view. Has everything it needs to be honest. Lots of pictures of the castle in the house, I dare you to count them all.

The apartament is a bit old but not run down, just old. The shower definitely needs a fix, very hard to actually set the water temperature. Goes from hot to cold randomly, Also very called in the bathroom and there is no plug to plug in the heater.

Dimly lit concrete spiral stairs, very dangerous trying to bring a suitcase up the 60 steps inside and additional 20 outside. Some of the furnishings were quirky and some just needed to be thrown in a skip. After being told to remove bed linens the very pillows and quilt were absolutely disgusting ( see pictures) we felt sick that we had slept on them. Normally your credit card is held as security but the hosts took £200 out of the account and wasn’t paid back in for a week or two after we had returned home. The first time I came across that.

Excellent location. Bedding was clean and comfortable. Lovely large bathroom.

The stairs. I don’t recall any mention of the extremely difficult spiral stone stairwell which was poorly lit and difficult to negotiate. Particularly with heavy suitcases. (There is now a reference to the stairs - which may have been added since we booked?) It is 4 floors up from the street. Not an easy climb. Kitchen crockery was minimal and mostly chipped. Odd assortment of glasses and cutlery. Towel quality and quantity could have been better. Hooks and more surface space would be a great help in bathroom and bedrooms. Limited drawer space in twin bedroom.
