Dean Village Cottage

De locatie was echt top. We hadden genoeg plek en ook een geweldig uitzicht. We konden gemakkelijk naar het centrum lopen en ook de verbinding met het OV was erg gemakkelijk. We konden zo de bus pakken na minder dan 10 minuten lopen.

De bank was een beetje stug en de keuken is wat klein. Misschien was een extra kastje in de badkamer fijn geweest om onze spullen zoals tandenborstels makkelijker neer te zetten. Maar verder was het erg goed.

The flat was in a good location for Edinburgh city centre. The shower was a very good standard.

The path to the flat consisted of roughly cut back nettles; it could have been planted out with beautiful summer flowers. Several flowers pots were lying from previous years. The layout of the kitchen was the worst I've ever seen; the cooker extended over the sink and it was necessary to work at a 45 degree angle to one's left to wash dishes. Both taps were very difficult to turn on. The pedal of the bin was broken. The sofa in the sitting area was grubby at the front and rather sunken in the middle. There was a stain on the arm of the large chair in the corner. The chairs were very wobbly and didn't feel safe to sit on. The whole place required painting and the flooring was lifting in several places. The coffee table and TV table were far too big for the room. Nothing matched; resembled a collection of stuff from a charity shop.There was a large slab of marble resembling the base of a previous fireplace under a radiator! There was only one open space in the built in wardrobe in the bedroom that was clear to put our clothes into; the owner's things were roughly stuffed into all the other spaces and below the bed.

A unique apartment in a UNESCO house in a UNESCO district – Dean Village. Only one quiet neighbor next door, a permanent resident. The apt is as shown in the pictures – nice, comfortable, well equipped in household and cooking utensils, numerous tableware, cutlery, pots and STUNNING views from the windows. It was quite cold in Edinburgh, but there is central heating in the apt, so no worries. Shopping - no problem, basic shops in nearby (20 minutes on foot) Princess Street. Very good communication with the hosts, immediate response to all questions and querries.

However, some improvement is necessary, e.eg. a sofa which needs new cushions or TV which is quite difficult to set. Also, thick, dark curtains would be a good idea, especially from the entrance side.

Only thing which was uncomfortable was that the flat was cold even when heating was on.

Beautiful location, well kept property with exceptionally clear instructions for arrival. It is a must for anyone that appreciates history or gorgeous views, if you can splurge for a few nights.

The sofa is a bit dated so there are springs that poke you in the back if you are not careful. Just look for the holes in the upholstery. There are no real instructions (that I saw) for the television, but I wasn’t there to watch tv :). The footpath could be better lit at night, and since the living room curtains don’t block light- the very bright exterior light shines through a lot.

Garden on entry a complete overgrown mess, stinging nettles attaching you all the way in, slippy and dark. Entrance hall a mess, cobwebs all over lights. Door lock a challenge to open. Door handle to cupboard to access the toilet hanging off, could have got trapped in there if it came off. Beading on floor outside bedroom sharp and unfinished, a hazard.

The area is stunning very tranquil.

The bed was very uncomfortable , you can feel the springs. We stayed here before and the bed was uncomfortable. I thought it would have been changed by now.. My daught received a small injury when a metal part pierced pierced through the couch and scratched her back. I informed the owners, they said sorry they would check when we left. I know my daughter wasn't badly injured but I felt they could have offered something in recompense . Not sur I will be back now.
