Beautiful Apartments

The fridge was clean, the radiators, shower, wifi and TV worked, parking is easy. However, the property is in no way a “beautiful apartment”.

We made the mistake of booking in haste. Booking.com has numerous one-word superlative reviews for this flat – “excellent”, “superb” ‘exceptional”. Buried under these spurious reviews are more discerning opinions. A notable feature is the copious plastic green foliage that covers innumerable exposed pipes, cracks, peeling paint and plaster, white sticky tape, and what would have been a window in the now bleak, windowless kitchen. A large, open crack runs down the length of the wall behind the fridge exposing a tantalising glimpse of perhaps somewhere better. A pile of fallen plaster sits collected on top of the fridge. Echoing the decaying walls, the cheap laminate flooring is worn and cracked. The bedroom ‘wardrobe’ is simply two hangers suspended from one of the many exposed copper pipes, in this instance running alongside a mouldy strip of tape. There is in any case no room for a wardrobe, chest of drawers, or even a normal sized suitcase with just a narrow corridor between the bed and window. The cheap bedroom blinds keep out no light whatsoever but do obscure the outside view which is of a chaotic building site. The attached shower-room is super-cramped, the sink cracked with mould underneath, and the shower rail is held up by a loose copper pipe secured to the ceiling by what looks like fuse wire. The bed is very uncomfortable and even slopes to one side. The kitchen chairs are also uncomfortable, and the tiny kitchen table awkward and cramped. The whole place has a grubby, tatty, dilapidated feel. At best it might be a store room for a junk shop or car boot sale. At worst, it could be somewhere you might be held in captivity. The host apparently never seeks to improve things, instead reacting to adverse comments by complaining that the reviewer is not fair. What is not fair, is deceiving customers. Beauty is truth, truth beauty. The advertised descriptions of this apartment are not true. It is not beautiful; it is uncomfortable and ugly.

Clean and tidy with everything we needed with a great landlady who kept in contact throughout. Great property

The mattress in the bedroom needs changing, the condition was really bad and super soft. We had to sleep on the sofa, the host was nice to give us a soft cover, so this improved our quality of sleep a little.
