Marial City Apartment Chania

The location is really great: close to old town, sea, bus station and bus stop. It is equipped with all you need, but you would expect that from any apartment nowadays. The host was quite nice as a person.

The apartment itself was a disappointment. We expectwd it to be quite old as it is visible in photos, but in reality it looks worse and it felt like it was not cleaned for months... Thick layer of dust even on such frequently used surfaces as nightstands. Also, loads of ants all over the apartment: in the kitchen, bathroom, hall. Besides, the check in was horrible: we arrived at the apartment, called the phone number that is indicated on Booking, but no answer. Then I got a sms "message please". I wrote that we arrived, and no answer. Sent several mesages and called several times, just no answer. After 50 minutes we found the person via Whatsapp and only then she replied us with the phone number of the host... So the host was waiting for us in the apt while we were waiting outside, and some "manager" of this apartment simply ignored us. So, make sure beforehand that you have the right phone number. And in general, this place can be advised to someone with minimum needs or just for an overnight. We stayed at the heart of Heraklion for the same price in a totally new apartment, so this one did not seem reasonable at all.

Picturesque apartment with all amenities at an amazing location! We missed nothing really. The MVP of the apartment experience (Mrs. Katerina) did her absolute best for us to feel welcome - from an easy check-in process and welcoming us with local treats, to multiple suggestions and even going out of her way offering to take us to a cretan feast! (Of course, speaking the language helps)

Although we did not miss anything, the apartment was ‘light’ on supplies (think of toiletries, kitchen/toilet paper, etc.) - a little more could go a long way here. The other ‘drawback’ was the noise, especially at night hours - while not much, it was noticeable (if like me, one’s a light sleeper).

The apartment is decent but not phenomenal at all. It is located near the city center but it lacks any charm and it has no view: it is very, very, very noisy (it overlooks a very crowded street with lots of cars passing by and honking all day, even at night). We had a very hard time sleeping for the whole week of our stay. The balcony is useless: it is the only balcony of the entire building without any sunshade (meaning it is very hot and that you may want to sit outside only in the evening…to repent of your decision after a minute…we couldn’t even hear each other when talking due to the noise!). A big let-down. The host was nice at first but she turned out to be pretty interfering and insistent in asking for a review. She texted me and even called me twice on my personal cellphone when still on vacation wanting me to write a review straightaway. That was not nice. One more big let-down. Never had such an awkward experience. Very disappointing. I wouldn’t have written any review about this place for the sake of peace and quiet, but being phoned and texted while still on vacation to write a review has been the reason to write one. With hindsight, even the noise has been one more reason to write one. Long story short: the price is not proportionate to the services provided and the location. Furthermore the house is not relaxing because of the traffic on the street nearby: this will prevent you to sleep well.
