The Grand at Dukes Townhouse

First impressions are always key. The Grand at Dukes Townhouse did not disappoint. This is a very presentable property for two, well located for all the sights and we'd have no hesitation in staying there again.

Parking is an issue, but not an insurmountable one

This was our 2nd visit as we loved the flat and the location is perfect. The apartment is comfortable and it was a lovely touch that a Christmas tree had been put up. A basket of goodies had been left which again was nice...might be improved if a pint of fresh milk was left rather than sachets.

There were a few issues during this stay. The dishwasher was full of 'clean' plates/glasses etc, however I don't think a dishwasher tablet had been used as it smelt very strongly of a washing machine liquid/tablet. We had to wash everything by hand as it was unusable. Although we were staying 3 nights only 2 dishwasher tablets had been left which seemed mean...although we didn't use them due to the problem mentioned above. Also the dishwasher was flashing that it needed rinse aid and salt...perhaps this should be checked? The first shower my husband had did not drain away and flooded over. Nobody had cleared the drain away...which he did so, it seemed to solve the issue but not really what you want to do on holiday. Lastly, equipment might be worth checking with an itinerary, we were just about to eat and open a bottle of wine to find no corkscrew! Disaster!! Luckily a dash to the local Sainsbury's solved the problem.

Great location. Excellent size for a couple staying. All facilities were of a high standard. Lovey decor.

Nothing really. Only point would be the lovely original sash and case windows were not very wind proof but the owner was exceptionally responsive and managed a quick fix.

The apartment is beautiful near to everything but far enough away for quieter nights. It was particularly cold but Stays York provided a tower heater which was fantastic. Wouldn't definitely stay again.

Minor gripe the wooden floors and creaky entrance staircase meant we were woken at 1.30am by guests staying in apartment above us. Perhaps consideration notice to others left in apartment might be helpful .

Fabulous, quiet location to explore the centre of York. Can't fault the flat, amazing shower and all the appliances are top quality. The welcome pack was fabulous, we would definitely stay again.

No recycling! If you were unlucky enough to have inconsiderate/loud people in the next flat up you would probably be disturbed. Only an issue when people are coming back from a night out though!

Lovely touch to leave a welcome pack but a pint of milk in the fridge would have been great. Also only left 2 dishwasher tablets which seemed a bit mean as we were there Friday to Tuesday. Softer pillows would be appreciated too.
