Over the River - Emperors Wharf

Location is superb -- right on the River Ouse within minutes walk time to the City Walls, York Minster, the Shambles, and other attractions of the city, while providing easy access by car and free secure parking under the building (though there is a small but real risk that the parking garage could flood, so always be aware of weather forecasts). Excellent views from two balconeys and nearly every window, showcasing the boat traffic and waterfowl just a few stories below. Really one of the best locations in the city. When we stayed (mid-March) it was very quiet at night, but this may change during the summer when crowds come out on the opposite bank (where several pubs are located). Fortunately, this unit is far enough downriver from the action that the noise shouldn't be a major issue most times, especially if windows are closed at night.

We had one of the water heaters fail on our first day (it wasn't working when we arrived) and a repair could not be effected during our week there, so we had to do without one of the showers (alas, the larger of the two). Water pressure was also generally poor compared to some other holiday bookings we have experienced in the UK. These were inconveniences, but not the fault of the hosts. In fact, they offered a small credit for the hassle and have said they will repair the malfunctioning water heater very soon. Most importantly, the host (Stays York) were highly professional and communicated very promptly throughout our stay, and we would happily stay at their properties again.

The location is a 5 minute walk to the bridge that takes you to all the shops and restaurants from the flat. The view on the river is beautiful and we had great weather every day with views of Clifford’s Tower and all of the church spires across the river. The River Walk and nearby cafe on the river was a favourite spot. The flat has laundry, a dishwasher and full kitchen which was very convenient for our family meals. The bedrooms and two bathrooms are clean and comfortable.

The second bathroom with tub had no hot water or we could not figure out how to use the tap.

The location of the apartment was excellent. Everything was within easy walking distance and the views were tremendous. We really enjoyed relaxing, watching the boats go by.

An additional key fob might have been useful, but really not an issue.
