The Sleeping Lion - Dunoon Holiday Home

Recently refurbished, self-catering apartment. Clean, tidy and adequately equipped. Electric heating. 5 minutes walk from the town centre, river and restaurants. Parking on Hillfoot Street is on a single dashed yellow line, however the sign that should indicate restricted hours is missing so it looks like parking is okay here day and night. Other reviews mention a lack of lighting on the external communal staircase, however this seems to have been resolved.

The Booking.com confirmation said I had to ring the owner for details of how and where to collect a key to the flat. However the phone number given begins +34. I refuse to ring a number in Spain at cost to myself! However the owner responded to an email request and gave comprehensive details. The bedroom is very small and cramped and the mattress is well past end-of-life. The springs have collapsed and gaps in the driven base below are felt. I suffer from a bad back and after 3 nights on that mattress I now have extreme backache. This is not just a poor mattress, it's a deceased mattress - not acceptable. Instructions for using the electric heaters would have been useful. Everything else was reasonable but nothing was outstanding.

Great location with partial sea view and comfortable and spacious flat. Having a bath.

Outside light not very bright made it difficult to see key safe numbers.

Self catering

Booking was easy, with good communication from the host, with a step-by-step guide on how to access the property, which was well-decorated, clean, and well-equipped with amenities for self-catering. Alternatively, one can have a wee 3-minute jaunt around the corner for an exceptional Italian fish 'n' chips place in the evening or a cafe, curio shops, health food store and a small grocers in the day. The town centre is a mere 10 - 15 minutes' walk. The flat is good for privacy, and it's quiet, with a comfortable bed for a good night's sleep. Fabulous!

We Cannot Fault the Sleeping Lion, the, shall we say, Virtual Welcome was just a brilliant touch on the TV

Location and had an iron and DVD’s.

The bathroom needs a deep clean, some air freshener for the damp smell and the property definitely needs new towels that don’t smell. The living room blinds don’t fully close.
