LovelyStay - Traditional Alfama View

In the heart of Alfama, it was where we wanted to be. Lots of good restaurants in the area. Place was clean and comfortable.

We had no issues but for anyone with mobility issues, be warned that there are lots of steps to get to the place and steps up to the apartment. It’s not built for anyone of above average height or weight, either. Bathrooms are tiny.

The good. This is a small historic property wherein much energy was taken to make improvements. It was clean and had all the necessary amenities. It is tastefully decorated and comfortable overall. The is not air conditioning, however there was a fan in each bedroom and you can open the windows for air.

The property has a bedroom/bathroom on the main floor and a bedroom/bathroom downstairs in sort of a basement area. This is where we had the trouble. From the beginning there was a musty smell in the downstairs bedroom, this is not uncommon in older buildings. As our stay continued the guest in the lower bedroom mentioned that there was a bad smell emanating from the bathroom, a sewer smell. The smell became stronger and stronger. The smell became so strong that the guest was not able to use the restroom as the stench was unbearable. She was barely able to sleep the last night in the bedroom. I attempted to contact the property manager via the booking app however due to the poor wifi in the unit was unable to until almost the end of our stay. I never respective an acknowledgment or response to my complaint. Lastly the sinks in the bathroom or so microscopic that it is impossible to brush teeth, wash face etc, without spilling water everywhere, since this is clearly an issue additional towels should be provided for the floor.

Location

The apartment has mold, and the smell is unbearable. Even the clothes in the bag were impregnated with the moldy smell when we left. There was only one fork - ONE, when the apartment was supposedly for 4 people.

The flat has beautiful vibes.

Don’t know if it’s a recent problem for the apartment but the air quality was horrible due to a humid and moldy smell. We had to keep the bedroom window open all the time and the living room window open as much as possible in order to cope. The lovely stay team are quick to answer when it’s standard questions at any time of the day. However, when dealing with questions out of the ordinary it’s not as easy to get a response. We asked several times if it was possible to store our bicycles somewhere around or inside the apartment and never got an answer.

No sounds from outside

To be honest, if you want to enjoy Lisbon, this is definitely not the place to stay: A lot of mold in the bedroom, it gives off a horrible smell. It is absolutely impossible to wash in the bathroom without water splashing out. In the bathroom sink it is impossible to brush your teeth without spilling water. There is practically no soundproofing, you will hear everything that goes on upstairs neighbors from going to the bathroom to the lovemaking. The location itself is in the old town where there is no cab passage, so you have to drag your luggage up the mountain.
