Fabulous Apartaments

The appartment was in an alley, but near a lot of attractions. There was a kitchen and the beds were nice. The shower had warm water. Clear directions on how to get there and get in. Fridge and equipped kitchen. Almost next door a lovely Pakistani restaurant.

The location and also the fact that we were living in the old city, as a local does.

This was the last of 6 accommodations we stayed in during our roadtrip on Portugal. My rating is based on the comparison with those others. The place is basic, it has all one might need. It's just not good enough in comparison. While in the desired old quarter, it's a street that feels rather unsafe.

Very dirty, stinky, dirty sheets and towels. Kitchen was awful. Carpet was unbearable dirty.

Not applicable Apartment was basic, but lovely and clean. Nice to have coffee left for us. Thank you. Brilliant location and excellent value.

Difficult to get answers in advance of travelling regarding check in and towels in apartment . The list on booking .com for towels is confusing.

Amazing location and thats about it. Everything else is horrible

We never met our host during our stay. We were emailed access instructions on the day of our arrival. Unfortunately we were sent the instructions for the wrong apartment. But these were soon followed by a second email with the correct instructions and the key box code. This email also contained our departure instructions (leave the city tax in cash on the table and leave the door key on the table). The apartment was clean, tidy and generally met with our requirements. The facilities were good (but see below). There was some noise from people passing by and you could hear other tenents coming and going, but these are the sort of noise you expect in a block. But, part way through our break we had a herd of elephants (well that was it sounded like) move into the apartment immediatel above ours. Some noise is expected but not at 03:00 hrs and 04:00 hrs. I do not blame the host who does not know what tenents will arrive. I would have marked this property very highly except for the problem I have hilighted below.

This is the only serious problem with this apartment. The gas boiler (a multi-point water heater) was NOT room sealed. The exhaust outlet from the boiler was connected to a flexible metal pipe (chimney liner) and this had a joint cut into it with a further length of the same type of pipe attached and running to the cooker hood, which of neccesity is open to the room. Whilst convection would usually take the Carbon Monoxide (CO) and other exhaust fumes upwards and away from the boiler, if there were any obstruction or blockage in this pipework the only place for the CO to go would be into the kitchen and from there the rest of the apartment. Whilst I might have expected such an arrangement in a third world country, I did NOT expect to see it in a Western European country. I do not know the gas installation regulations in Portugal. But, in the UK such an arrangement would NOT be allowed. Indeed, an installation such as this would be condemned with a red prohibition notice saying DO NOT USE.
