Fabulous rustic experience in a charming schist village - felt like being back in the old days but with modern comforts. Great but challenging walks - would not recommend for the faint hearted!

A coffee table for drinks would have been welcome

"Delightful, comfortable little schist house in the mountains"

10.0

The traditional little stone house has been restored and renovated with love and detailed attention to the style, with the addition of all modern conveniences, by a talented craftsman and his son: Mario and Samuel. Everything has been thought of from the user's point of view. The kitchen is well-equipped and the place can be heated in winter. It's the cosiest place one would hope to find, and at a very reasonable off-season price, too! Candal is one of the prettiest 'schist villages' of all, not too artificial or touristy, and it's located in a fantastic natural area for hiking. I stayed for one week and would thoroughly recommend it!

If you like nature and hiking, or want to move away from city buzz, then this place is simply amazing. The entire village is very quaint and charming, and the silence runs deep. There's a man-made natural pool right in front of the house, offering the chanting of a clear water stream. It was pretty zen. For the adventurous, Candal is a good starting point (plus there's a stunning waterfall nearby). There's only one café and one restaurant - neither very cheap but both offering great food and pleasant service. The house itself isn't far from the road, so no need to climb too many stairs. Rustically decorated, it's was a pleasant stay with most of what one may need for a short nature break. There's wifi service, which is great since there's no cell reception aside from Vodafone. The shower was tiny and a bit dark, but manageable. The bed was comfy enough. Also, it's pet friendly! Our young dog loved everything.

We can only leave the car by the main road, so do be careful with children and pets! Need to close the curtains for privacy, as there are lots of people able to peak into the house. While it was overall clean, there's a thin layer of dust everywhere and a few spider webs (we didn't mind and found no eight-legged neighbor). The upstairs neighbors, however, will be a bit bothersome even if they're careful. The floor creaks loudly at the lightest step and there's a noticeable competition for hot shower. The wooden furniture was clean but smelled a bit stuffy so didn't make use of them.
