Romantic Medieval Apartment

Everything. The perfect place to stay, very close to the center of Lisbon yet still quiet, . The apartment has everything a couple could ask for. The owner was very helpful and quick to reply to any of our queries. We felt very safe at night even when coming back in the early hours. The locals are all very friendly, in all I - we can't recommend this apartment enough and can't wait to return again soon. In fairness nothing we write here would express how much we loved our time here .. Thank you thank you for allowing us to stay . Ana & David.

No bad points at all. We Cannot understand any of the negative reviews. But realise everyone has different expectations .. take my advice book it

The decor of the apartment is very unusual, all kinds of items, old and new. The bed was comfortable and the area was quiet except for the dustmen whom seemed to come every day early in the morning.

Our host was due to meet us. We had notified him in advance that we were arriving from the airport quite late - around 9pm. I sent an SMS and an email from the airport when we arrived. We found the apartment in a dark alley after a bit of searching, but no one was there. I tried to call but the number kept going to voice mail. I was eventually sent a message saying "send scan of your passports and I will give you the key box code". I was unable to do this and finally we were given the code. It was not a good arrival. We were tired after a long journey. In the end the host visited us the next day to get our passport details at my suggestion. He brought a cake as an apology. There is no natural light in the apartment because of its position in the alley on the ground floor. The shower space is very small with little room to turn around. Although the shower itself worked well. We were instructed by the host sending a WhatsApp video how to turn on the water heater in the cupboard in the back room. We did not use the kitchen. There is a coffee machine, but no capsuals - we went out for our morning coffee. We invited some friends back to have some cake and the seating is not enough for four to sit comfortably. All in all - for the price - we were not very happy with our choice.

I don't want to be negative but from the beginning of our stay something was going wrong. Before arriving I asked if we could check in earlier or at least leave our luggage. I got a reply that we would be able to check in at 10a.m. When we arrived we got a message that it would be possible at 11 a.m. Then another that at 1 p.m. because they still have to clean, and then another that at 2.30 p.m. When we arrived at the apartment it turned out that it was not cleaned at all. Linens, towels and garbage from previous tenants were lying everywhere. The owner did not answer the phone so I wrote a message. The owner quickly sent a cleaning team, which assured that the apartment would be ready in 45 minutes. When we returned it was cleaned, but the bedding on the second bed was missing. After many messages we got the bedding only at 11 pm, still one pillowcase was missing and the other was dirty and with hair. The owner said it could be the hair of his dogs which did not improve matters at all. As compensation we were given a bottle of red wine. The apartment is in the center of town so everywhere is close. It is very small, an obese person may not fit in the bathroom. The windows do not close. There are a lot of decorative trinkets in it which probably years have not been cleaned so they are terribly dusty and cobwebs hang on them. We were 4 adults but there is no seating in the living room for 4 people only for 2. The apartment has its own charm if someone would take good care of it.

Location is top, it is just the very center with short walking distance to touristic buses, public transport and all the old city hills you are ready to climb!

Be prepared to some noise outside in the nights, as the apartment is on the ground floor, however, not much, as it is on the tiny not pass-through lane. Also, this is a historical building- so better suited for not really big people))

The apartment was lovely and was as advertised.

Check-in instructions and communication could be more professional. The location is up a steep hill, so maybe not suitable for those with mobility issues.

NOTHING

The apartment is located in an UNSAFE area. Although we had paid for 5 nights, we never stayed there. We parked the car 100m away and trying to locate it, we were stopped twice by different guys that were trying to sell us drugs. When we reached the apartment, we found out that it is located in a narrow alley on the ground floor and the 2 windows are covered with iron bars, obviously for safety reasons. The owner never appeared. He sent us some pictures via What’s Up informing us that we should find the key in a small locker attached on the window's iron bar. According to him this is SAFE. When I called him he told me that he doesn’t speak English and asked to continue our communication via What’s Up. I told the owner that we were not willing to stay in his apartment because the area is UNSAFE and he was trying to convince me that this was not true. When I asked him about the iron bars, he replied that he installed them following a request by an old lady, that stayed there in the past and wanted to feel SAFE. Finally, we never entered the apartment, informed the owner about our decision and asked for a refund because the information on Booking.com were note accurate. In fact, no information-photo regarding the alley or the outside of the apartment is available on Booking.com. The owner refused the refund, so we contacted Booking.com. We sent them photos as proof that the area is not safe and asked them to investigate the issue and proceed with the refund. After 18 days Booking.com replied that the owner will not refund all or part of the amount that we had paid for 5 nights that never spend there and Booking.com cannot do anything else. In my opinion this is TOTALLY UNACCEPTED for a company like Booking.co. The lack of important information related to an apartment on Booking.com is their responsibility. I truly hope that this review will protect future potential customers of this apartment. I also attach to this review photos from the outside of the apartment.
