Arcadas III by An Island Apart

A great place to spend time with friends in a large group. Close to the center of Funchal, large grocery supermarkets nearby. View from the apartment to the ocean. Swimming pool available. A very nice and helpful resident. I recommend.

We liked residential complex very very much, the apartment was very big and it had everything that you would need. The rooms are big, the beds are very comfy, the view from the balcony is beautiful. There is a 24/7 pool that is part of the complex, which we appreciated very much! There is easy parking and a very close and popular beach - playa Formosa The host was great, he gave a a Madeiran challenge and was very responsive

I suggest bringing your own washing pods if you plan on washing clothes.

The host Tiago met us at the complex and gave us a quick run through of the apartment. It was lovely to have a mini welcome pack with Madeira wine, biscuits, cake etc. The apartment is in a great location, across the road from an outdoor shopping centre Forum Madeira. Plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes so close to apartment. Bus stop is just outside complex and taxi rank only 50 metres up from the bus stop. Apartment is spacious, with good kitchen, washing machine and dryer. Having 2 x full bathrooms was really great. Pool was lovely to swim in, and surrounding garden area well maintained.

Apartment had no air conditioning and our stay was during a heatwave. We tried sleeping with windows open but due to traffic noise and security gate constantly opening and closing it was virtually impossible. Upon request, the host Tiago delivered floor fans which made the bedrooms just bearable at night. Only 1 x set of keys/fob. This really impacted our holiday as there were 3 adults. Every time we wanted to go out it limited our freedom and flexibility as you needed the fob to enter the complex and building block, then the key to open apartment door. A lot of the times, one of us had to stay close by until the other returned to allow them entry. I requested an additional set of keys a few times during our 3 week stay, and finally received a response from the host saying they were awaiting to receive the additional keys from the owner. This never happened, we didn't hear from the host again, and just gave up. Apartment felt damp in the bedrooms and wardrobe in main bedroom had a strong odour. I had to keep my clothes in suitcase which was not ideal. Housekeeping was not booked in even though we had a 3 week stay, however, once I contacted host this was arranged.

Lovely, spacious apartment in a fantastic location. Shops, including supermarket are just across the road and plenty of restaurants nearby and within a 10/15 minute walk. Bus stop for Funchal is just outside. Apartment is comfortable and well equipped to self cater. Plenty of storage space for clothes in all 3 bedrooms. Everything was clean, including communal areas. Swimming pool was always quiet and sunbeds available. Parasols are also available.

Biggest negative was that it was very noisy. The gate to the complex was very noisy as it opened and closed. The apartment is very close to the main road so there was a lot of noise from that too. With the doors shut it was OK. I also with earplugs so always got a good night's sleep. Would have liked fans for the hottest days. Swimming pool is unheated so very cold.

Lovely safe and quiet area, close to restaurants and shops. The sea front was a short downhill walk away and the scenes from the pathway were breathtaking. Despite the proximity of the main road it was surprisingly quiet. The pool area and gardens were beautifully maintained and we felt we had it to ourselves!

Maybe if I was being picky a few more comfy balcony chairs and perhaps a few more decent bowls in the kitchen.

We were put in an alternative place the first night, which was very inconvenient after a long flight. No mention of compensation.

The most unfriendly host I have ever seen in my life. He was insisting us to leave the apartment. We asked him if he can provide us with fans because there is no air-conditioning at the apartment...He started to complain about it and made us feel uncomfortable and un welcome. Apartment is by the street where you can hear cars all day and night long. Sleeping quality is really bad. You can't even open the window because it's on the main street. Honestly it was the worst booking experience I have ever had. I honestly don't recommend it and I don't know why it has all that reviews I also have screenshot when he starts to complain where you can see it attached here.
