Koreana in Decorah

The apartment was spacious and the beds were very comfortable with memory foam topper and pillows. Everything was very clean and we enjoyed being right in the middle of downtown. We were able to walk nearly everywhere.

I wish there was a way to double lock the entry doors. Even in a small town that would give me more peace of mind.

Room was very clean without harsh chemicals and lingering smells of chemical cleaning. Room had been painted since our last visit and a bedside lamp repaired. Also, front stairs had new linoleum installed, the old was getting very worn down. Simple supplies furnished, but that is all we required--nice to have a full apartment with full kitchen.

We already knew this--the stairs in front and back are very steep, getting harder for us each year (Well, what isn't...). Back steps have a few challenging places, but it's a 100+ year old building. Wood back step railings could use some sanding of rough areas.

The property was clean and lots of space. It was easy to get in and a parking spot was provided.

The property is above a restaurant. There were kitchen smells wafting up to the apartment and residual ones the whole time. Some were pleasant and some not so good. If you are a person that is easily affected by scent, I would not recommended the apartment.

Parking. Not a lot of room in the alley. Also appeared that if we parked there we had to walk around to the front. You can’t park in the streets from 3-6 am to we ended parking several blocks away where we could leave it for the entire night. The stairs are very narrow. Could use better railings.

Spacious and clean. Very quiet. You couldn’t hear a noise on street or from other apartments or from down below. Beds were comfortable. You could cook and they provided puzzles and board games to play with your family if you wanted. Great location to shop and eat in downtown Decorah. The shopkeepers in Decorah were very friendly. The owner(s)was very prompt when I messaged them. Had keypad for room entrance.

Getting to the room was not easy. If you had any sort of injury, or had a lot of things you were bringing with you, this is not the place for you. There is no elevator, so you have to enter the property in the front on Water Street. It is an old building, and the stairs are wooden and very narrow. I knew there would be stairs, but I didn’t realize when I rented it there would be more than one flight of stairs. I ran into a problem, because the Japanese restaurant below the apartment is very popular. I came at five pm to check in and all the parking places near the entrance were full. The windchill was below zero when I checked in, so I had to park in the alley behind the building, walk South to Winnebago street, then walk East to Water street and then walk north past a couple stores to the apartment entrance door. Because there was no direct alley to the front, it took me three trips to get my things and doing that in the subzero windchill wasn’t very fun. If I had realized I needed to check in earlier, I would have done that to avoid all the restaurant traffic. Parking was another issue. You can’t park on the street in Decorah overnight. A parking space was provided in the alley in back of the building, but it wasn’t convenient. There is more than one apartment for rent at this facility above the Japanese restaurant, and the parking spaces were marked for Apartments 1 & 2. When I parked the first time and unloaded my gear, there was a garbage can or some other sort of container up against the building that was sticking out into my parking space, so I could not pull up as far forward as I needed to. I was driving a suburban and my tail end was sticking out in the alley. My daughter was there for an event at Luther College and she was staying overnight in a different hotel. I went to see her and then came back in the dark and subzero temperatures.
