Haus Birkenheim

Nothing to dislike, perfect place, perfect host. Only thing our hosts didn’t provide but I’m sure they would if they could was more snow 🤣

We travelled to Filzmoos with two of our adult sons. Haus Birkenheim has everything. It is situated at the end of the town Filzmoos, a balcony with an amazing view and ample room, two very large bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a very well equipped kitchen and most importantly a host, Andrea who not only is available for any small problem but is full of suggestions on how to spend your time. Andrea speaks excellent English. Every day we consulted with Andrea and her suggestions were spot on. We were able to fully enjoy the beautiful Filzmoos, use the free Summer Card which comes with the accomodation to go up the cable car for amazing walks, use the bus or trailer to get to stunning semi-demanding mountain hikes and use of the small but adequate Filzmoos heated indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Filzmoos itself has a great supermarket, many restaurants and shops. We had a superb meal at Mein Lieblingsplatz which was great value for money. The parking at Haus Birkenheim is very easy and right next to the accommodation. The kitchen has many extra crockery and cutlery so even with three meals we only needed to use the dishwasher once a day. Every day Andrea ordered fresh bread for us delivered at our door. Our days out included moderate three to five hour hikes in the amazing mountains which included stunning hikes and always a mountain hut to finish off with some strudel and a beer. On the rainy day we drove to nearby Salzburg which is a charming city and easy hour away. We went into Hallstatt which is close in kilometeres but takes over an hour. If you decide to go to Hallstatt it is best before 9:30 and after 15:00 when the tourist masses have departed. I would suggest to drive and park in Obertraun, take the ferry to Hallstatt and then enjoy the beach and quiet of Obertraun . Filzmoos has an excellent website in English with very detailed decription of hikes, activities and others. Thank you Andrea and Haus Birkenheim for an excellent holiday in the mountains.

we have been traveling to Austria for fifteen years and this is the best apartment we have ever stayed in. first off, Andrea the host and her family are the most charming, friendly and welcoming people you could ever meet. Andrea was a mind of information and advice on where to go and what to see. we are keen hikers so she advised on routes and huttes where we could get refreshments. The apartment located on the first floor had a huge balcony and magnificent views back down the valley. the apartment itself was absolutely immaculate and so well equipped that you could just move in, we were so impressed. the furniture, bedrooms, bedding, kitchen equipment was of such a high standard as well. on the balcony was table and chairs for four plus recliner and sun bed, we enjoyed taking the sun and what a view for breakfast or dinner. for those thinking of s larger family group they also have a one bedroom apartment right next to the two bedroom one plus a separate bedroom so you could accommodate a large family all on one floor. we were able to order bread which would be outside our door in the morning. I just cannot fault this place, it was perfect but one of the things we liked most was being among a friendly community and Andreas young lads saying hello as they passed us on their bikes, it just gave a sense of belonging for the week we were there. lovely place and lovely family, thank you.
