The host was very friendly, very swift with her replies and very eager to help. She welcomed us with wine, which we were allowed to exchange for a jar of home made marmelade. We stayed in the appartement in the attic. We were positively surprised by the spaciousness and the fact that we had the entire attic for ourselves. The location is superb: there are many hiking trails with various difficulty levels nearby and many interesting locations/museums/cities within a 1-1,5hr drive. The view is magnificent and the cows surrounding the building are really sweet. We were also lucky they had some smaller calves who were mooing beneath the window in the morning: much better then an alarm clock. The present amenities are basic, but sufficient. The kitchen is provided with the necessary equipment to cook a proper meal. The dishwasher is a real treat. And the shower and bathtub are a very lovely warm welcome after a active day in the outdoors. There's no WiFi and hardly any connection with your cellphone/roaming internet. There is a television present with a satellite connection, but it's pretty old school (including the high toned buzz) and there are mostly German (synchronized) programs. We were happy to be isolated from the rest of the world during our holiday. We spend a lot of time outdoors and we took some boardgames with us for the rainy days/evening hours. But if you are living in fear of missing out and you therefore crave the internet etc.you will probably have a hard time enjoying yourself here.

There were some small things that were a bit of a deal breaker. The mattresses and pillows seemed to be in need of replacement. My partner had a hard time sleeping on the beds. We tried every mattress and couch available, but it didn't really worked out. The host did offer us a softer mattress, which did help a bit. At least enough to get some rest and not to be having to have an earlier departure as the lack of sleep became problematic. The appartement needed some maintenance with the lightning and the fridge, but the host informed us it was difficult to get the parts/electrician to come by to have the issues fixed. During our stay there was construction work and a wasp nest removal planned. We were not informed about this when booking the appartement. Thank goodness the construction work only took one full day. And we only had to chase away 12 wasps from our room. There's also a little thing that might be a bit of an issue for some visitors: it's a former diary farm and they still have cows. This means you can expect a lot of cute animals and wonderful nature, but also many flies...The host does offer some double sides stickers that functions as fly paper, but you will be amazed by the catch of the day. And find yourself in need to change the stickers after a couple of days as many bugs decided to stick around to enjoy the view with you. Although the appartement has also some basic amenities and games for children, there is no child seat for the dinner table. And there's no child lock on the television: parental supervision might be wise as the satellite connection also offers a lot of channels that you don't want to expose your children to. But overall: we had a wonderful stay in a marvelous and almost magical environment. And for us it was a positive experience to be living in the nineties again without all the daily hassles and the 24/7 attitude of a FOMO society.
