"Good for a night, but maybe not for an extended stay."

4.0

The Tin Shack's location is beautiful and a variety of birds (including cranes!) make use of the dam, which is lovely to see. The accommodation is a good size, and firewood was provided for the first night. There are some interesting books on the shelf!

We understand that the Tin Shack provides a simple frills-free experience, but for that to be achieved, we feel that the basics that are provided need to be in good working condition. We informed the host of the issues we encountered and she was very gracious. However, in the interest of transparency, I share a summary of the issues below, trusting that they will be attended to in the future (if they have not been attended to already). - Many of the amenities in the Tin Shack felt rundown or not up to standard. Examples included the leaking sink pipe, the half-working stove top, the broken wall heater in the bedroom, the shower curtain, the absence of door handles in the bedrooms, the couches that look stained/dirty and weren't comfortable to sit on, and the double bed that is painful to sleep in. - We hoped for more guidance, perhaps in the form of a document containing information on things like the quirks of the place (like the cold tap being the hot tap in the kitchen), where to empty the bin when it gets full, and where to empty the ash from the fire. While I appreciated the trust, we ended up feeling a bit abandoned. We were disappointed not to get the experience that we were hoping for, based on the many favourable reviews of the Tin Shack, and hope that our feedback can help improve the accommodation and amenities. We were very grateful to our host for being so gracious when we informed her of our concerns.

"Well rested and very lovely place. But was a bit disappointed in the condition of the place."

The place is falling apart. It needs a lot of maintenance and cleaning. With a little work on the floor and roof that's falling in, the place could be a gem.

"Peaceful, beautiful, relaxing, liberating"

10.0

The view was exceptional and the people are very nice, there was no disturbances or problems. the host even gave free fire wood and blitz. it is a place where I would definitely go back to one day. It is the perfect place to get away from technology and society for a while. I definitely recommend the tin shack if you love the mountains, beautiful scenery.

Getting used to not using technology again was a bit tricky and created some boarded, but it was defiantly rewarding. The toilet was leaking but can be fixed no problem. The hot water in the shower runs out very quickly and two people cant shower after each other, also not a big problem. There also is a lot of flies but keeping the place clean helps and is not a deal breaker.

"Okay but will probably not return"

Good view and friendly host.

The tin shack is basically coming apart and needs a lot of tlc. Very rustic stay and not for anyone with high expectations. I would suggest taking it of the market for a while, and fixing it before booking it again.
