Villa Venezia Apt 3 - Spacious Hervey Bay esplanade apartment

Good location, the beds were comfy.

We arrived at the apartment excited to see the place and settle in after a long few hours in the car. After retrieving the keys from the lock box, the glass door was suddenly pulled open by an elderly lady asking, “Can I help you?” I explained that we were there to check in. She immediately replied, “No, you can’t check in.” I explained that I had spoken with the host (Marty), who had confirmed we could check in anytime after midday. We arrived around 12:20pm and I showed her the message confirming this. She again insisted we could not check in and said she would “get on to him” because the previous guests had a late checkout. The interaction felt quite abrupt and unwelcoming, which was disappointing after arriving excited to start our stay. The apartment itself was good overall, however there was a significant issue with the kitchen cupboards smelling strongly of mould. When I took a glass from the cupboard and poured juice, the smell was so strong that after the first sip I had to spit it out. I ended up having to wash a glass each time before using it, and one glass still had visible lip marks on it. This was concerning from a hygiene and health perspective. I tried leaving the cupboard doors open to air them out, but the mould smell then spread throughout the apartment. As we were travelling with children, this made us uncomfortable as we didn’t want them exposed to it. Overall the apartment had potential, but the check-in experience and the mould issue in the kitchen significantly impacted our stay. I hope these concerns can be addressed for future guests. I did contact the host, Marty, expressing my concerns however no reposne was received which is dissapointing.
